UNDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP’s policy work, carried out at HQ, Regional, and Country Office levels, forms a contiguous spectrum of deep local knowledge to cutting-edge global perspectives and advocacy. In this context, UNDP invests in the Global Policy Network (GPN), a network of field-based and global technical expertise across a wide range of knowledge domains and in support of the signature solutions and organizational capabilities envisioned in the Strategic Plan.

Within the GPN, the Crisis Bureau (CB) guides UNDP’s corporate crisis-related strategies and vision for crisis prevention, response and recovery. The Bureau has the responsibility for support to prevention, crisis response, resilience and recovery work under the auspices of UNDP’s Strategic Plan. The Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) has the responsibility of developing all relevant policy and guidance to support the results of UNDP’s Strategic Plan.

The GPN Joint Directorate provides support for Bureau leadership and programmatic teams across BPPS and CB in support of the strategic and operational vision of the GPN and UNDP.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Team Leader of the Programme Management and Results Team and working across BPPS and CB teams, the intern will support coordination and enhancement of business processes of BPPS and CB. In particular, the intern will focus on the following:

1. Streamlining of business processes, documents and knowledge sharing across BPPS and CB teams

  • Map existing business processes and standard operation procedures (SOPs).
  • Review existing knowledge and document sharing procedures and platforms.
  • Streamline and improve business processes and knowledge/document sharing platforms.
  • Communicate with BPPS and CB teams of the enhancements.

    2. Support the development of resource mobilization brochures with BPPS and CB teams.

  • Closely work with relevant BPPS and CB teams to gather global programme and project information for resource mobilization.

  • Design and improve the contents of the brochures.
  • Work with the infographic designer to produce effective resource mobilization brochures.

    3. Additional support as required.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Applicants to UNDP internships must at the time of application meet one of the following academic requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; and
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

In addition to meeting the requirement above under eligibility, the preferred fields of study for this internship includes international relations/international development studies, business process enhancement, strong writing skills and information/data visualization.

Experience******:

Required:

  • Experience in coordinating across multiple stakeholders or groups towards a common objective.
  • Previous experience, volunteer work and/or advocacy on issues related to international affairs.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in/with international setting or organizations.
  • Previous experience and/or exposure to working with the United Nations, an international institution, IGO, INGO, NGO, CSO, etc.

Language skills******:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of the other UN languages is a plus.
