Duties and Responsibilities

This internship is positioned in the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, located at Beirut (Yarze), Lebanon. The intern reports directly to the Chief Coordination Unit and liaises closely with members of UNSCOL's political, Coordination, Public Information and other substantive units. The intern will provide support for the Mission's Coordination Unit activities, according to a work plan and delivery schedule which will include, but are not limited to the following elements: •Conduct research and compile information on the work of all United Nations funds, agencies and programs working in Lebanon with a special focus on the peace-development humanitarian nexus. •Conduct research and compile information on selected issues relevant to Lebanon and the Middle East region. •Assist in the drafting of geographical and thematic fact sheets. •Assist in the compilation of presentations, papers and other documents as required. •Assist in the monitoring of local, regional and international media, including social media. •Assist in the preparation and organization of events and outreach activities. •Attend conferences, workshops and other relevant public events as an observer and report back to UNSCOL. •Translate media items and other documents from Arabic to English or English to Arabic •Archiving and other administrative functions. •Perform any other duties as requested

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements: 1. (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for. 2. Be computer literate in standard software applications; 3. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; 4. Have Internet communication, searching, and Social media skills and 5.Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

Fluency in English and Arabic (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French would be an asset.
