Duties and Responsibilities

Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. The main documents outlining the mandate of the organization are the Vancouver Declaration on Human Settlements, the Habitat Agenda, the Istanbul Declaration on Human Settlements, the Declaration on Cities and Other Human Settlements in the New Millennium, and UN General Assembly Resolution A/56/206. The project "Supporting the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. Spain – Latin America and the Caribbean region" managed by the UN-Habitat Office in Spain, has as an outcome to increased knowledge exchange, advocacy generated and strengthened alliances with global stakeholders in the framework of the New Urban Agenda. For 2025, the project is funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda of the Government of Spain. The intern will be under the supervision of Beatriz Jordao, OIC UN-Habitat Country Office Spain. Responsibilities He/she will support communication activities in collaboration with other UN-Habitat Units and Branches. The incumbent will support the following activities: • Assist in drafting (writing), editing and preparing (designing) communication materials, including social media posts, newsletters, emails, messaging and outreach material. • Assist in drafting and reviewing talking points for speaking slots. • Assist in taking and summarizing meeting notes. • Assist in research, drafting and editing of editorial content for UN-Habitat articles, newsletters, etc. • Assist in the design and layout of reports and other documents. • Support the elaboration of the annual report, reports from campaigns, media clipping and other reports. • Support in the writing of press releases and articles. • Support the daily management & promotion of the office presence on Twitter, LinkedIn and other platforms as directed. • Ensure follow up on social media platforms on activities realized by the office or partners, as directed. • Contribute and ensure the visibility of events, campaigns and key activities of the office through social media. • Support the development of communication tools such as infographics, posters, videos etc. • Support with creating graphic cards such as social media cards and quote cards. • Support with monitoring news. • Update and management of databases and calendars. • Translation of documents into English or Spanish as required. • Support with logistical activities and organization of events.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Studies in Communications/ Journalism/ Graphic Design or other related fields (e.g. PhD, MBA, 4th Year Undergraduate, graduate) Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
