Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is located in the Conference Support Section (CSS), Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch (OCB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna, Austria. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. The Intern will work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of the responsible staff member of the Section with a focus on the Global Programme to support the implementation of the UNTOC Review Mechanism (GLOW97). The intern will mainly focus on supporting the implementation of the Programme’s advocacy and communications plan by contributing to the production of communication products such as social media content, webstories and audio-visual material on the UNTOC Review Mechanism. Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Assisting the team in the development and implementation of awareness-raising activities on the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its Review Mechanism. • Supporting the development of GLOW97’s communication and advocacy material, including drafting of webstories, preparing social media content and graphic elements as well as disseminating them. • Assisting the team in servicing intergovernmental processes on transnational organized crime, particularly in relation to the Review Mechanism of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Protocols thereto. • Assisting the team in drafting and preparing presentations, newsletters and concept notes. • Conducting research relevant to the work of UNODC, particularly in relation to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. • Undertaking other tasks and activities as requested.
Qualifications/special skills
a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION). • Applicants must have a keen demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. • Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, A field of study in international relations, communications, journalism, political and social sciences, or a related area is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D.
