Org. Setting and Reporting This internship is located in the Office of the Special Coordinator on Improving United Nations Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OSCSEA). The Office supports the ongoing efforts of the Secretary-General and the leadership of United Nations offices, departments, funds and programmes, along with other Implementing Partners, to strengthen the response to sexual exploitation and abuse in peacekeeping, humanitarian, development and human rights sectors.

The internship is for a period of up to six months. The internship is unpaid and can be either part-time or full-time depending on your status. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in OSC-SEA. The internship would normally be onsite at the UNHQ - New York, however there is a possibility to conduct part of the internship period working remotely and under exceptional circumstances, a fully remote internship may be considered. The granting of a remote internship is dependent on operational requirements and will be at the sole discretion of the United Nations.

This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communications and design within a global organization dedicated to a critical cause.

Responsibilities Within the delegated authority the Communications/Design Intern will perform the following duties: - Work closely with our Public Information Office (PIO) and other members of the team to develop innovative communication strategies, social media campaigns, and materials. - Monitor and analyze global PSEA media coverage and trends. - Update and revamp the USCSEA website, creating engaging infographics, and contributing to the development of the SEA toolkit, among other tasks.

Detailed Responsibilities: 1. New Website: Collaborate with the team to update and redesign the offices website, ensuring it is user-friendly, informative, and visually appealing. 2. Infographics: Design and create visually engaging infographics to convey complex information related to sexual exploitation and abuse in a clear and accessible manner. 3. Digital SEA Toolkit: Contribute to the development and maintenance of the SEA toolkit App, which provides essential resources and guidelines to address sexual exploitation and abuse. 4. Content Creation: Assist in the creation of multimedia content, including videos, presentations, and written materials, to support communication efforts. 5. Social Media Management: Help manage and update social media platforms to engage with a broader audience and promote awareness of the SEA mission. 6. Research analysis: Conduct research on best practices in communications and design, staying informed about emerging trends and tools. 7. Collaboration: Work closely with the PIO and other team members to brainstorm and implement innovative communication strategies.

    Education Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a relevant graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in communications, graphic design, public relations, or a related field).; or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent) in communications, graphic design, public relations, or a related field).

Job - Specific Qualification a. Computer proficiency in standard software applications, including Microsoft Office (specifically Excel) is required.

b. Proficiency in web design and content management systems (e.g., WordPress) is required.

c. Strong knowledge of graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, is required.

d. Keen eye for detail and a creative approach to design and communication, with knowledge of cutting-edge tools in the field, is required.

e. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, are required.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or not currently in the United States on a non-immigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa. If already in the United States of America on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization, allowing them to undertake the internship.

United Nations Considerations According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. The term “sexual abuse” means the actual or threatened physical intrusion of a sexual nature, whether by force or under unequal or coercive conditions. The term “sexual harassment” means any unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature that might reasonably be expected or be perceived to cause offence or humiliation, when such conduct interferes with work, is made a condition of employment or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment, and when the gravity of the conduct warrants the termination of the perpetrator’s working relationship. Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
