Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is accelerating the global transition to energy-efficient and climate-friendly cooling. Getting the right solutions in place for sustainable cooling essential for improving the quality of life and health of people without undue impacts on the planet. The Cool Coalition is a global multi-stakeholder network that connects a wide range of key actors from government, cities, international organizations, businesses, finance, academia, and civil society groups to facilitate knowledge exchange, advocacy, and joint action towards a rapid global transition to efficient and climate-friendly cooling. The Secretariat of the Cool Coalition is hosted at UNEP. Cool Coalition members have identified the need for global status check and an overview of implemented country actions as well as an evaluation of new opportunities and how far the world is from being on track to a net zero cooling pathway. At COP28, UNEP Cool Coalition published a Global Cooling Watch report and supported UAE presidency to attract more than 70 country commitments to a Global Cooling Pledge. Since 2024, UNEP Cool Coalition, as well as its ongoing activities are dedicated to global implementation of this pledge and continuing the data analysis and tracking started under the Global Cooling Watch. The intern will work to support research, governance and communication needs of the Secretariat to support the Cool Coalition team in delivering its workplan. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks: 1) Delivery of strengthened Cool Coalition partnership governance through knowledge management, and technical, logistical, facilitation support. a. Support the organization of Cool Coalition partner and country meetings, including by managing the related events logistics, power point, note-taking, and follow-up activities. b. Assist the facilitation of Cool Coalition Working Groups and partnership meetings as needed. c. Support secretariat work, including tracking working group progress, knowledge management. 2) Delivery of content for outreach, high-level and technical events for the Cool Coalition d. Provide support to the Cool Coalition Secretariat for technical and high-level events, virtual and in presence, including by drafting and sharing invitations, support the event’s logistics, drafting speakers’ briefs, presentations, event reports, and distributing follow-up event material. e. Regularly updating the visual tools, infographics, and reference materials. f. Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings, including providing technical assistance during virtual meetings. 3) Support Cool Coalition Communication efforts g. Support the organization of Cool Coalition steering and executive committee meetings, including by supporting the related events and meeting logistics, power point, note-taking, and follow-up activities. h. Support on maintaining the Cool Coalition contact tracker, website, and social media presence with support of dedicated consultants, develop and deliver mass mailing activities, support the maintenance of the initiative’s official email and related correspondence. i. Assist in the process of the Global Cooling Pledge Secretariat management. 4) Support the development and application of Cooling Policy Toolkit and Trainings j. Support with online research on various tool-kits and guidance available on sustainable cooling policies k. Support with planning calls with partners l. Notetaking and content development

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). • International Relations/ Energy Policy/ Environmental Technology/Environmental Science. • Fully proficient computer skills and use of web based platforms and relevant software e.g. word processing, PowerPoint, excel, internal databases, Internet etc. Preference may be given to Masters candidates. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of one of the following UN language is an advantage (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).
