You have:

  • Postgraduate degree (or ongoing) in environmental science, public policy, engineering, economics, climate studies, or related fields.
  • 0-2 years of experience in research, data analysis, emissions accounting, or climate policy.
  • Strong analytical skills, with an understanding of climate action planning and emissions modelling.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, particularly in UI improvements using Macros and VBA.
  • Proficiency in data visualization through Tableau and Excel.
  • Prior knowledge of GHG accounting frameworks (IPCC, GPC) or subnational climate action planning is a plus.

Program Overview for Climate

At WRI India’s Climate Program we focus on modern, research and integrated solutions that can allow a low-carbon transition in India, while ensuring that the transition is equitable and just for its people and protects natural resources. Through applied research, the use of frameworks and tools, partnerships with partners and ground-level implementation, we want to achieve impact at scale.

About the Role

Climate change is a pressing challenge, and subnational governments play a crucial role in driving mitigation efforts. To support these efforts, the Advanced Scenario Carbon Emissions Navigation Tool (ASCENT) is and excel based tool to assist sub national governments in tracking emissions, developing mitigation scenarios, and planning climate strategies.

ASCENT is built on methodologies from IPCC and the Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories (GPC), enabling reliable and standardized GHG accounting. The tool facilitates emissions projections under different climate actions scenarios, integrates sectoral data (e.g., energy, transport, industry, waste, agriculture), and provides financial guidance for climate actions planning.

In this regard, WRI India’s Climate Program is looking for an intern for its ongoing work of the ASCENT - excel based Tool, ensuring it remains user-friendly, data-driven, and relevant to policymakers. The intern will work closely with the team to enhance tool’s functionality, assist in tool improvement, support for pre-loaded database creation and documentation for preparation of user guides.

How Your Day Will Unfold

  • Assisting in refining the ASCENT’s interface, usability, and features to better serve to users.
  • Assisting in Improving the visual layout, formatting, and design elements to enhance usability and navigation.
  • Assisting in designing features that make the tool intuitive and user-friendly (e.g., drop-downs, conditional formatting, tooltips) ensuring all improvements and features remain within the Excel environment.
  • Assisting in developing and researching strategies for sectoral emissions reductions
  • Supporting pilot-testing with subnational governments, gathering user feedback, and incorporating improvements.
  • Documenting changes and providing clear guidelines for users on how to use the tool.

Requirements and skills that we seek:

  • Postgraduate degree (or ongoing) in environmental science, public policy, engineering, economics, climate studies, or related fields.

Salary and Benefits: INR 25,000 Per Month
