This is a Internship contract. It usually requires 0 years of experience, depending on education. More about Internship contracts.

Background

Climate change is happening with unprecedented speed and intensity in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region, threatening continued economic growth and development progress. Climate change is identified as a key elevation theme for the implementation of the UNDP Strategic Plan. In addition to helping implement the Paris Agreement, the transition to a low-carbon economy can help tackle our region’s specific challenges, spurring more stable and diverse economic growth, creating new jobs, helping to slow rural depopulation and labor emigration across the region.

UNDP’s “Climate Promise” announced at the 2019 UN Climate Summit supports 115 countries globally in enhancing their NDCs with demonstrated increase in ambition. RBEC is committed to ensure full coverage of NDC support in the region. UNDP will help countries undertake an inclusive and transparent process to revise and submit enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Building on UNDP’s extensive climate and sustainable development portfolio and partnerships with the UN, NDC Partnership, coalitions, IDBs, private sector, academia and civil society groups, the initiative provides technical and financial support across a tailored set of services to address bottlenecks and scale-up key success factors.

In order to achieve these goals, countries should increase their ambition, accelerate climate action, and mobilize society as a whole around their climate goals. For the later, UNDP supports countries to promote a country’s NDC vision and ensure an inclusive approach for its enhancement. Special efforts will be made to empower the voices of women, youth and other marginalized and/or vulnerable groups that may be at risk of being left behind. We must have all voices at the table if the world is to make transformational change to address the climate crisis. That includes specifically the younger generations whose future is directly concerned.

The Climate Box (CB) is an interactive curriculum on climate change and a comprehensive climate education programme offering capacity building, educational and knowledge exchange activities for teachers, educational experts and students. It is implemented in 9 ECIS countries (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan). The programme supported engagement with the formal education sector to mainstream climate education; trainings for teachers on how to apply new learning tools and present climate change topics in schools; support and oversight of the CB piloting at national level; contests of youth projects based on the CB materials; knowledge exchange conferences for teachers; monitoring and impacts evaluation, and other activities. The project is built upon strong national ownership and cooperation with national educational authorities and offers opportunities for broad public awareness and youth engagement.
