Learning Objectives

  • Increased understanding of the fixed asset management and accounting processes including the acquisition, capitalization, disposal, and transfer of capital assets.
  • Learning and understanding office capacity building through staff training and development.
  • Increased understanding of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards with respect to accounting for property plants and equipment.

Description of Functions:

  • Support the enhancement of the asset management standard operating procedures and forms.
  • Prepare summary documentation of the asset disposal and donation process including authorization in accordance with the current delegation of authority.
  • Support the development and implementation of new systems for internal controls to ensure compliance of the physical asset verification and lease certifications.
  • Contribute to the advancement and maintenance of the asset management content of UN WOMEN’s intranet and data content and dissemination to stakeholders.
  • Synthesize lessons learnt and best practices in asset management, lease administration and annual certifications.

  • Education:

  • The candidate must be a pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance or other business-related subject at the university level;

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
  • Must have computer knowledge and experience in using MS Word, Excel and Power point.

  • Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in French are required.

  • Working knowledge of another UN language a distinct advantage.

  • Eligibility:

  1. Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher)
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent)

A person who is the child or sibling of a staff member is not eligible to apply for an internship.

An applicant who bears any other family relationship with a staff member is eligible and may be engaged as an intern, provided that the intern must never be assigned to the same work unit of the related staff member or be placed under the direct or indirect supervision of the same.

For purposes of the policy, “child” means:

  • the adult child of a staff member;
  • the adult child of the spouse of a staff member (stepchild);
  • the spouse of an adult child of a staff member or the child of a staff member’s spouse (son- or daughter-in-law). “Sibling” includes the adult child of both or either parent of a staff member and the adult child of the spouse of a parent of a staff member (that is, also half- and stepsibling).

To give as many eligible candidates as possible an opportunity to intern with UN Women, each candidate is only eligible for one internship. This applies even if the internship was shorter than the maximum allowable duration.

Renumeration:

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
