Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

UN-Habitat established an office in Mozambique in 2002. Since then, it has been strengthening its relationship with the Government at National and Local level, as well as with other UN agencies and development partners implementing more than 40 projects in all provinces of Mozambique, focusing mainly on Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Building

Under Covid-19 circumstances, this internship position is offered under the remote modality of teleworking. To work remotely, the applicant should have full access to a computer with a modern browser in which to run the latest version of Office 365 applications that will allow him/her to perform the tasks within the scope of the internship, including proficiency in using parametric modeling software.

The intern will be required to operate off -site and no travel request will be approved, either as part of on-boarding, nor during the tenure of internship.

The UN-Habitat Architect /Related Fields – Post-Disaster Reconstruction Support internship is for 3 - 6 months.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Human Settlements Officer stationed in Regional Office for Africa, Nairobi, and under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager for Mozambique, the Intern will:

- Familiarize him/herself with the project activities and its partners. - Familiarize him/herself with UN-Habitat’s mandate, the Habitat Country Programme Document, and the Post-Cyclones “Umbrella Programme” Building-back-Better and Resilience Building, by reviewing various publications and relevant documents. - Participate in online meetings with the supervisor and team. - Assist in planning and design inputs to ongoing initiatives, mainly related to UN-Habitat post-disaster support to the Government of Mozambique in provinces affected by cyclones Idai and Kenneth in 2019. - Assist in the development of draft concept notes/project briefs, background documents, presentations, and copy-editing and writing support where needed. - Assist the team in providing inputs to develop technical drawings and 3D concepts on planning, housing, school & health facilities, and community infrastructure in a post-disaster context. - Assist in the preparation, implementation, and follow-up of workshops, training, and surveys. - Undertake other assignments as required for the development and implementation of the work programme of UN-Habitat Mozambique

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree,Masters, PhD. or equivalent.

Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred Area of Study: Currently pursuing an advanced degree in Architecture, Urban or Town Planning, or Disaster Risk Management.

Work Experience Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Programme. Are you a student in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have you completed a Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent?

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Portuguese is desirable
