Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office in Lao PDR is hiring an intern to support joint advocacy and communications for the UN in Lao PDR. In the absence of a National Communications Officer and with the end of contract of the international Communications UNV on 31st December 2023, the intern will be expected to support the RC's Office and subsequently work with the National Communications UNV currently under recruitment, please also note that this is unpaid internship.

With guidance and overall supervision of the Head of Office, RCO, Lao PDR, the Intern is expected to undertake the following:

• Communications and Visibility: 1. Assist in media monitoring for English and Lao media 2. Support UN Communications Group tasks including preparation and follow up from monthly meetings 3. Update the UN in Lao PDR website and social media channels, Twitter, Facebook, and other digital channels 4. Contribute to communication and visibility campaigns 5. Support the development of news briefs and newsletters 6. Assist in the preparation and visibility of RCO Lao PDR events • Learning Objectives 7. Increase understanding of RCO's work and the UN system 8. Gain knowledge and understanding of the UN's work in Lao PDR 9. Build and develop professional relationships with RCO colleagues and colleagues from other UN agencies 10. Work as a team member in a multicultural setting

Qualifications/special skills

A first-level degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified field of study such as media and communications.

Languages

Fluency and excellent communications skills in spoken and written English and Lao language is required for the internship.
