The Intern is a member of the team in UNHCR’s Country Office Minsk. S/he will report to the Inter-Agency Coordination Officer but will engage and work with all functions in the UNHCR Belarus team. UNHCR provides interns with a learning opportunity to gain knowledge and practical experience related to their academic programme or future work in a range of fields related to UNHCR’s mandate. By being directly exposed to the work of the Organization, interns have the chance to develop their skills and aptitudes. In Belarus, as the office in Minsk is relatively small the intern will gain experience and an understanding of a variety of UNHCR areas of work. Interns will have the opportunity to work in a multicultural setting and can work directly with partners and communities of forcibly displaced and stateless people.

It is a full-time role for a duration of 3 months with possible extension. Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.

Duties and responsibilities The intern will work in the Minks Office of UNHCR Representation in Belarus. In particular, s/he will contribute to the following tasks: • Stay informed of developments Belarusian, European and International refugee and human rights law and relevant jurisprudence and reports and share relevant (including summarised) information with staff members in the operation, including translation, where necessary. • Assist with monitoring and producing summary information on government policy and decisions affecting forcibly displaced persons and stateless persons in Belarus, including sustainable development and socio-economic inclusion related policies. • Support the operation with the translation of correspondences, texts, reports, and other relevant documents, between Russian and English. • Support Research, including comprehensive and snap-shot analysis on various topics of interest to the operation including (Asylum data and trends, Legal Protection, Community-based protection, socio-economic condition etc). • Provide assistance with the scheduling and administrative tasks in preparation for activities and events such as external engagement and community-based protection activities. • Provide administrative and logistical support including with organizing meetings events, missions and taking meeting notes. • Support the digitalisation of key documents. • Perform any other duties as required.

Minimum qualifications required In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria: • Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR. • High level of written and verbal English and Russian skills. Ability to translate documents accurately between the two languages. • Good analytical skills with competencies in written and verbal communication • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to create, edit, and format documents and presentations. • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. • Self-motivated, positive attitude and willingness to learn. • Interest in refugee and asylum-related issues, including international and EU norms and standards will be an added-value.
