Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The internship is for a minimum of three (3) months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of six (6) months, depending on the needs of the Unit. The internship is for a duration of six (6) months The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

The 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP), adopted by the UN General Assembly, is a key implementation mechanism for the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and its SDG 12, of which it is an integral part. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) serves as the Secretariat of the 10YFP, working closely with Member States and other stakeholders engaged in the One Planet network (www.oneplanetnetwork.org) which supports the implementation of the 10YFP. The development, establishment and implementation of the 10YFP has relied on the convening power and expertise of the United Nations. Equally, United Nations agencies and programmes play a key role in the achievement of SDG 12.

Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Secretariat for the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP), the intern will assist in a variety of tasks relating to agenda integration with Multilateral Environmental Agreements and a coordination programme with the UN system on Sustainable Development Goal 12. Responsibilities can include: research and analysis, maintenance of contact databases, writing and synthesizing information, supporting the coordination of information sharing and backstopping meetings. Some digital communications tasks may also be required including supporting the development of specifications in relation to products to be hosted on the SDG 12 Hub website. This task will also include research and mapping of knowledge tools, support in the coordination of technical meetings, and drafting of technical documents.

Duties may include, but are not limited to: - Support activities through research and analysis relating to the work of under relevant MEAs. - Support in outreach and backstopping meetings and workshops - Support in maintaining the database of MEA national focal points. - Notetaking and synthesizing of discussions between stakeholders of the One Planet network - Support digital communications activities such as website specifications and social media engagement. - Respond to ad hoc requests for support. - Support in research and mapping of UN knowledge tools against specific criteria. - Facilitate technical meetings when required. - Support in drafting reports and other technical documents.

Education An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in Environmental Law, Communications (with a political science focus), Public Policy, Economics or related discipline is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.
