Duties and Responsibilities This Consultancy is located in the United Nations Global Compact (GCO), at United Nations Headquarters, New York. The incumbent reports to the Senior Programme Management Officer, Intergovernmental Relations & Africa.

The United Nations Global Compact is the United Nations' voluntary corporate sustainability initiative in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption. It revolves around ten universal principles drawn from four key international instruments in these areas. The Global Compact Office is the United Nations entity responsible for the overall management and coordination of the Global Compact initiative. It pursues two complementary objectives: (1) making the Global Compact and its principles part of business strategy and operations everywhere; and (2) facilitating cooperation among key stockholders by promoting partnerships and other collective action in support of United Nations, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Consultant will provide support with the oversight and management of strategic projects and initiatives consistent with the Global Compact’s 2023 Strategy. The consultant will ensure that the deliverables and outputs build value for the initiative and advance the Intergovernmental & Africa work of the Global Compact and thus enhance political and financial support of the UN Global Compact from the G77 Group and the Africa Group.

In this context, the Consultant will perform the following functions:

Provide support in project management in the operationalization and implementation plan of the UNGC Africa Strategy 2023, consistent with the Global Compact’s 2023 Strategy, the 2030 Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063:

-Manage the five cross-office Africa Strategy operationalization themes: project management, value proposition, growth, operating model and fundraising workstreams. -Set-up and coordinate the central operationalization team and allocate topic accountabilities; work with team leads to align KPIs and key milestones with unit plans; report a regular view of progress, issues, and recommendations to the UNGC Executive Management Team -Key Output: Operationalization Plan of the UNGC Africa Strategy 2023 (Completion Date: 29 February 2022)

Assist in driving UNGC’s engagement in policy dialogues, as part of UNGC’s Collective Action Projects:

-Collaborate with the cross-office policy working groups; identify objectives to engage in policy and regulation at the local level; outline guidelines, key indicators, best practices and next steps for Local Networks policy engagement in the Global South -Participate in high level policy dialogues at international events (including B20 and Conference of States Parties) to engage with the public sector and other key stakeholders on anti-corruption and the Ten Principles -Integrate the outcomes and recommendations from the policy dialogues and the policy working group into the Policy Playbook for Local Networks -Key Output: Policy Playbook for Local Networks and policy-dialogues events (Completion Date: 11 March 2022)

Provide support in the design, development and finalization of an updated matrix reflecting the positions, political support from G77 Member States for the UN Global Compact in the Towards Global Partnership resolution and other key inter-governmental processes:

-Participate in meetings and consultations with representatives of G77 Member States and organizations, with the aim to strengthen political and financial support for the Global Compact 2023 Strategy -Coordinate the participation of G77 Heads of State, Ministers, and high-ranking Government officials in UNGC events and initiatives, including advising on speaking remarks -Perform other duties as assigned by Chief of Intergovernmental Relations & Africa -Key Output: Finalized matrix of G77 Member States positions on UNGC, Towards Global Partnerships resolution and other inter-governmental processes (Completion date: 31 March 2022)

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: A first-level university degree in international affairs, international development, law, economics or a related field. An advanced degree is desirable. Specialization on Africa is desirable. Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in intergovernmental relations, international development, project/programme management or related area is required.

Experience in corporate sustainability is desirable. Experience in the United Nations, or other similar international organization, is desirable. Experience with corporate sustainability focusing on Africa is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
