This position is located in the General Assembly Affairs Branch (GAAB) of the General Assembly and ECOSOC Affairs Division (GAEAD), Department for General Assembly and Conference Management. GAEAD facilitates the deliberation and decision-making process of intergovernmental and relevant United Nations expert bodies and United Nations conferences by providing substantive and conference management support.
Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Branch and within delegated authority, the incumbent: - Assists in the planning and coordination of elections and appointments in the General Assembly and other organs; - Participates in the provision of secretariat services to the sessions of the General Assembly and its subsidiary organs as well as United Nations conferences, including through preparation and submission of proposals, and handling voting procedure for draft resolutions and decisions; - Assists in the preparation of the procedural notes for the presiding officer for each meeting and the maintenance of institutional memory on each agenda item; - Assists in preparation of all pre-session, in-session, and post-session documentation (including agenda, programme of work, list of resolutions, and reports); - Assists in the preparation of summaries and analytical reports on the proceeding of meetings, and follows up on the implementation of their decisions and recommendations; - Assists in drafting notes, background papers, talking points and other correspondence for senior UN officials and maintain contacts with delegates and staff in other UN offices and departments, and other international organizations; - Assists in administrative functions and performs other related duties, as required; - Provides substantive and analytical support to the Office of the President of the General Assembly; - Performs other related duties as required.
