Lead the evolution of WFP’s corporate Design System and User Interface Kit.

You have:

  • University degree in relevant field and at least six years’ experience with user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design.
  • Or secondary degree with professional certification in relevant field and at least nine years of professional experience.
  • Mastery leading or using Design Systems.
  • Proficiency developing high-quality user experience and user interface designs, adhering to corporate branding standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of UX/UI design (wireframes, mock-ups, prototypes) and related tools.
  • Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
  • Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory.
  • An intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) or Portuguese is desirable.

Are you a highly skilled Interface Designer with extensive hands-on experience leading the implementation of Design Systems? Are you proficient the implementation and adoption of a set of standards intended to manage design at scale using reusable components and patterns? Are you familiar with interface design best practices so digital products are usable and provide a good user experience (UX)? What we offer: A Consultancy Contract of up to 11 months (with a possible renewal following a one-month break depending on performance of the incumbent and funding approval) will be offered to the selected candidate.

Time zone: You will be expected to work from remote with a team working in the Central European Standard Time (CEST) time zone; for this role at least six working hours must overlap with the 08:30am to 5pm CEST working day.

The Technology Division of WFP partners with business areas across the organization to digitally transform our business. We design, develop, enhance, and maintain a variety of digital products.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Solutions Development, the Interface Design Lead manages the evolution of WFP’s corporate Design System and User Interface (UI) Kit. A digital Design System reinforcing WFP’s brand and bringing consistency to user interfaces across digital products is a pre-requisite to designing the user experience that help ensure WFP’s digital solutions meet the highest quality standards of technical usability, user acceptability and domain suitability.

In addition, the Interface Design Lead coordinates User Experience (UX) oversight across the portfolio of IT Solutions delivered by the Branch, to ensure the UI Kit is properly adopted and IT solutions achieve a high level of usability and accessibility.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the evolution of WFP’s corporate Design System and User Interface (UI) Kit, incorporating an updating UI elements, patterns, and components required by WFP’s IT Solutions, and ensuring easy-to-use documentation and guidance is provided to Interface Designers and Front-end Developers.

  • Interact with WFP’s global interface design and front-end development community to keep-in-touch with the user interface requirements of existing and emerging IT solutions.
  • Oversee and coordinate UX activities across a portfolio of IT solutions, ensuring that interface designers and front-end developers adhere to the guidelines outlined in WFP’s UI Kit, and to UX best practices to ensure a high level of usability and accessibility of IT solutions.
  • Run and coordinate WFP’s DesignersHub, promoting it with relevant audiences, inviting people to join, and creating a place to strengthen the connection among designers in WFP, share info and updates on the UI Kit on design related matters, talk about DesignOps best practices, ask for feedback and let designers showcase their work.
  • Mentor junior User Interface designers.
  • When required, take on Interface Design implementation activities on specific IT solutions:
    • Contribute to the creation wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
    • Design user journeys and create User Interface flowcharts based on the needs and the limitations of the users and of the context of use;
    • Coordinate iterative prototype review/testing; communicate results and advocate for end users’ needs to be taken into consideration; assist in revising the requirements as insights from testing are revealed; ensure UX best practises are followed;
  • Other related duties, as required.

DELIVERABLES:

  • Up-to-date Design System and UI Kit, fully adhering to WFP’s Brand and with designer and developer-friendly documentation.
  • IT solutions which are usable and accessible.
  • Design documentation.
  • When required: wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, site maps.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education & Experience:

University degree in relevant field and at least six years’ experience with user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design.

    Languages:

    Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory. An intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
