This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office and the of the Policy and Liaison Officer, the successful candidate will assist the unit following up international, regional, and national migration related processes, conventions, and agreements. Additionally, the Interagency Coordinator, under the supervision of the Policy and Liaison Officer, will also assist in the liaison with government representatives, CSOs, academia, UN Agencies and other stakeholders related with the migration phenomenon, promoting the signing of cooperation agreements with counterparts, and helping to monitor the implementation of these agreements. Last, the successful candidate will assist the unit in the implementation of several research and information management documents and projects conducted by the Policy and Liaison Unit.

1. On behalf of IOM, ensure coordination with all relevant actors, including members and participants of national (local) coordination mechanisms, UN Agencies, CSOs and other governmental stakeholders.

2. Contribute to the multi-sectoral coordination to enhance strategic planning, optimizing the use of resources and assuring the active participation of all the stakeholders.

3. Ensure efficient and timely circulation of information to stakeholders.

4. Promote the sharing of updated data within IOM, with the UN, civil society partners, and donor communities to enhance advocacy for migrants and refugees.

5. Conduct support missions to field locations to ensure harmonized position and communication between the stakeholders, as well as effective coordination with national coordination mechanisms or those that the Government of Argentina indicates as the most pertinent.

6. Promote and maintain a close relationship with all the stakeholders thus ensuring an inclusive inter-agency approach.

7. Remain well-informed of various multilateral processes, including the UN Reform, UN governance and make timely recommendations to the CoM/HoO regarding their value to the stakeholders and engage with and support senior management of UN agencies, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), civil society and donors.

8. Provide with assistance, when needed, in the development of sharing of knowledge on migration issues and updating of the information through participation in the development and implementation of research projects, studies, articles and specific documents.

9. Participate in the preparation and systematization, in coordination with other Units of the Country Office of the results and lessons learned from the implementation of research projects and prepare analytical tools, as a database of programs, to report trends in migratory flows.

10. Identify emerging issues and coordinate with the Policy and Liaison Officer the development of thematic reports; contribute to the review and draft concept notes, program reports submitted by the Country Office, communication materials and any other tool to ensure quality control and compliance with requirements and priorities.

10. Co-lead preparation of national monthly situation reports and assist in the preparation of technical documents, such as the elaboration of periodic migration reports (qualitative and quantitative), data gathering and institutional reports.

11. Develop and maintain terms of reference for coordination structures and processes.

12. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

University degree in Political or Social Sciences, Migration Studies, International Relations, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with seven years of relevant professional experience

Experience remark:

  • University degree in Political or Social Sciences, Migration Studies, International Relations, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with seven years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in project development and monitoring, evaluation and analysis in at least two IOM thematic areas and at least two distinct regions;
  • Demonstrated expertise in delivering presentations and providing training.
  • Experience in social research, data collection and/or methodology qualitative and/or quantitative is an asset.
  • Prior experience working in social projects, as the strengthening of the social inclusion and promotion of rights of migrants and refugees is an asset.
  • Experience working with governmental or / and non-governmental institutions.
  • Experience with handling confidential data.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge
  • Spanish(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise:
