Duties and Responsibilities

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Please visit our website at www.eclac.org for further information. The internship in the Natural Resources Division (Santiago, Chile) will last 3 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an "as-needed" basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of Economics Officer. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the internship period. Duties may include: • Assisting research on non-renewable natural resources issues. • Searching, collecting and organizing data and information on non-renewable natural resources issues from various sources. • Research the China’s investment in strategic minerals in Latin America and the Caribbean. • Reviewing documents (such as papers) on natural resources economics or related topics and preparing notes and abstracts of them. • Proofreading documents - Editing texts for accuracy, grammar, punctuation and style, and for adherence to established standards for format. • Providing administrative support in meetings (conferences, workshops, etc.). • Preparing a variety of inputs for documents (reports, papers, concept notes, etc.) and presentations, which may include abstracts, notes, charts, diagrams, tables among other materials). • Providing support in writing news and updating Unit's web content. • Perform other related duties as required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written in Spanish is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
