You have:
- Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences or other fields relevant to international development assistance.
- At least five years of postgraduate progressively responsible, relevant professional experience in the private or public sector demonstrating high performance. Experience with the United Nations is desirable.
- Demonstrated interest and experiences in humanitarian and development work. Experience from multiple locations is desirable.
- Experience in working with inter-agency and multilateral fora.
- Experience in establishing knowledge management systems and processes.
- Fluency in oral and written English.
- Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an advantage.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Global Network Against Food Crisis team, reporting to the Director of Humanitarian-Development, Policy & Programme Division, supports strategic and global level policy engagement, advocacy and partnership building to inform and position the organisation within the evolving global discourse on the HDP nexus. Based on WFP’s new Strategic Plan, the above vision would be realised through the development of the Global Network Against Food Crisis, establishing this as the key platform through which collective action to prevent famines and reduce need is implemented. In this context, the newly established team is seeking a consultant to support engagement across various fora to ensure coherence and complementarity in the operationalization of the HDP Nexus and to act as a focal point on the thematic area of hunger and conflict.
ROLE OF THE CONSULTANT:
Under the general supervision and guidance of the Senior Coordinator & Partnerships & Advocacy Lead of the unit, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
Engagement in International Fora on the HDP Nexus:
Act as working level thematic focal point for WFP’s engagement in HDP Nexus Fora, including as the custodian of all relevant information regarding WFP’s strategic positioning and evolving priorities, as well as workplans, briefs, talking points, etc.
Articulate and support the representation of WFP’s position on the HDP Nexus in the OECD DAC, IASC RG4 and JSC, promoting complementarity and coordination in WFP’s internal positioning and strategic priorities on the HDP nexus.
Actively promote complementarity and coordination in WFP’s external engagement and messaging across relevant fora, including the Global Network against Food Crises, the OECD-DAC, the Joint Steering Committee, the IASC Results Group / Task Team 4, and the Fighting Food Crises along the HDP Nexus Coalition.
Actively identify opportunities to leverage WFP’s engagement in the Global Network against Food Crises, including to appropriately promote and position the Network within HDP Nexus-related fora.
Identify opportunities to strengthen WFP’s role and/or leadership status in relevant fora, including through support to WFP’s engagement in substantive workstreams.
Prepare timely meeting agendas and supporting inputs that reflect the strategic priorities of participants and of WFP.
Draft briefs, talking points and advocacy materials to support WFP’s engagement in external fora and in support of WFP senior management.
Act as a thematic focal point on Hunger and Conflict. Provide support, talking points, reports and other materials as needed to ensure consistent messaging and direction within the team on the issue of Hunger and Conflict.
Reporting and Research:
In close collaboration with the thematic focal point on UNSC Resolution 2417:
- Contribute to research and reporting on the joint WFP/FAO biannual report on the resolution.
Strategic Communication:
In close collaboration with Global Network communications staff:
- Support relevant communications activities, including website development and presence on social media
Knowledge Management:
Lead the section’s knowledge management activities, including to realise commitments and activities required as part of WFP’s engagement in the Global Network against Food Crises.
Lead WFP’s support to knowledge management activities in multilateral fora, including the OECD-DAC, the Joint Steering Committee, the IASC Results Group / Task Force 4, and the Coalition on Fighting Food Crises along the HDP Nexus.
Promote synergies with relevant staff and projects to ensure visibility of WFP’s efforts on relevant internal and external platform.
Coordinate with the Knowledge Management team in PRO-P and the broader Emergencies and Transition’s Unit to promote complementarity in the work on the HDP Nexus and to complement and feed efforts on knowledge capturing and dissemination.
In close collaboration with colleagues from the Global Network against Food Crises, support broader efforts to map and document best practices around HDP.
Develop and maintain a system to store, track, share and disseminate knowledge and resources produced by the team.

KEY DELIVERABLES:
- Identification and promotion of WFP and Global Network priorities within multilateral fora, based on a mapping of relevant priorities, membership and country focus.
- Well-articulated and tailored briefs that effectively reflect and communicate WFP’s strategic priorities.
- Clear and strategic meeting agendas and related preparation.
- High quality research and reporting on UNSC Resolution 2417.
- Development and maintenance of a knowledge management system that supports WFP and Global Network commitments and priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
- Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences or other fields relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Experience:
- At least five years of postgraduate progressively responsible, relevant professional experience in the private or public sector demonstrating high performance. Experience with the United Nations is desirable.
- Demonstrated interest and experiences in humanitarian and development work. Experience from multiple locations is desirable.
- Experience in working with inter-agency and multilateral fora.
- Experience in establishing knowledge management systems and processes.
- Specific technical knowledge of and/or experience in the following areas are considered as an advantage: resilience programming, social protection, safety net.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of multilateral and inter-agency mechanisms, processes and fora relating to food security and the HDP Nexus. Excellent communications and team working skills are essential.
Languages:
- Fluency in oral and written English.
- Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an advantage.
