The Supply Division oversees the procurement and logistics, including transport and warehousing, of strategic and essential supplies for children of some $6 billion annually. The Insurance Unit, in the Financial Management Centre, manages the insurance arrangements for all supplies in transit and in UNICEF warehouses and advises on risk management and insurance issues related to the UNICEF supply strategies

How can you make a difference?

Under the general supervision of the Insurance Claim Manager, the Insurance claim Associate is responsible for ensuring timely insurance coverage and claims processing for UNICEF supplies in transit and warehouses and assisting UNICEF offices to comply with policy and procedures on obtaining insurance and processing insurance claims.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  1. Receives, and processes insurance claims across the organisation in more the 150 countries and cultures, keeping supervisor informed and advised on actions for decision/follow up
  2. Responsible for timely and efficient screening of insurance claims, recommending appropriate course of process actions
  3. Initiate the insurance claims process by reviewing the incoming claim in compliance with UNICEF rules and regulations
  4. Investigate insurance claims by collecting all relevant information needed in order to submit the claim under the insurance program
  5. Provides technical support to country office and regional office staff
  6. Ensuring that documentation for submission to the insurance broker is complete and appropriate.
  7. Prepares and maintains records, all claims, from submission to settlement and closure of claims files.
  8. Prepares and maintains records of recovery claims with country offices, carriers and insurance broker
  9. Specific support to Covax related transactions
  10. Creates, reviews, and maintains master data in SAP and claims databases relating to areas of responsibility.
  11. Assists to ensure appropriate maritime and warehouse insurance coverage is provided.
  12. Assists to monitor the validity of insurance policies and performance of the insurance broker and underwriters.
  13. Assists in the preparation of policy and procedures related to insurance.
  14. Acts as insurance focal point for UNICEF Regional Offices and Country Offices for insurance related activities.
  15. Undertakes other relevant duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Completion of secondary education, supplemented by business administration / management / logistics studies is required
  • Minimum six (6) years of experience in a similar function or in administrative jobs in supply chain, insurance, shipping or other related field is required,
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of any other UN language an asset
  • Valid work permit and residency in Denmark at the time of submitting the application. Note that the selected candidate is responsible for obtaining any required extension of their residency permit as an extension cannot be dependent on an employment with UNICEF.
