This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Innovation and Knowledge Management Specialist the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist in implementing various innovation challenges including that on FGM, Youth & SRHR, Climate Change and assistive technologies to access reproductive health information and services for persons living with disability
  • Support in coordinating Country Innovation Focal Points in 23 countries in the region
  • Liaise with UNFPA HQ in aligning innovation programmes
  • Coordinate the communication activities of the regional innovation work including a quarterly innovation newsletter and social media engagement
  • Support the innovation specialist to coordinate country innovation frameworks for 23 countries in ESAR
  • Any other tasks including administrative and operational needs

Educational additional comments

A university degree in journalism, communications, law, political science, economics, international development, international relations, public administration, public health information and communication or any other relevant discipline.

Experience remark

1. At least three years of experience in digital communications and strategy.

2. At least three years’ experience in project and event management

3. A working understanding of gender equality and gender-based violence work, with a familiarity of regional priorities.

4. Prior experience of working development system with good geopolitical understanding of the Africa, and in particular the East and Southern Africa region is essential

5. Good knowledge/understanding of the UN system preferable; experience working in a multilateral organization is an asset.

6. Ability to deliver high quality work within strict deadlines.

7. Excellent self-awareness, self-management skills

8. Languages: Fluency in English is required;
