You have:
- Advanced university degree in Remote Sensing, Geomatics, Geography, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems and Technology, Mathematics or related field.
- Three years of experience in provision and support of information systems services and/or IT products across the lifecycle.
- Working knowledge (proficient - level C) of English and limited knowledge (intermediate - level B) of one of the other official FAO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).
Organizational Setting
The Digitalization and Informatics Division (CSI) is responsible for information technology (IT) activities within the Organization. CSI performs on behalf of the Organization the following critical roles: defining FAO IT policies and providing strategic advice on IT architecture and standards, governance, policy and operational matters while monitoring organizational compliance; defining the mechanisms for managing FAO's information and data; protecting FAO's information assets and ensuring confidentiality, integrity and availability; ensuring provision of IT services that are core for the Organization's global operations and supporting the information and business processes; coordinating organization-wide IT activities in order to reduce duplication and fragmentation and to increase integration of information data, systems and platforms, mobilizing IT resources from across the Organization.
To ensure FAO's strategic framework of better production, better nutrition, better environment and better life to fight poverty and hunger, CSI is engaged in digital workplace and digital impacts. For digital impacts, CSI is developing FAO geospatial infrastructure to promote digital transformation in agriculture with providing digital public goods. The Hand-in-Hand Geospatial Platform has been developed to meet the growing requirement of data, information and services. The Information Technology Officer (Remote Sensing) will work on improving the functionality of satellite image processing for the geospatial platform in CSI Agro-informatics Team, in close collaboration with other relevant technical divisions and teams.
The post of Information Technology Officer (Remote Sensing) is located in CSI at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Reporting Lines The Information Technology Officer (Remote Sensing) reports to the Senior Information Technology Officer, Agro-informatics Team in CSI.
Technical Focus Support the development and management of algorithms and data products of satellite remote sensing in food and agriculture domain and contributes to FAO data governance and data policy. He or she will: • Develop remote sensing algorithms for essential remote sensing data products; • Harmonize and archive mainstream and essential satellite remote sensing data products in food and agriculture; • Contribute to data governance and data policy; • Contribute to the Organizational IT Application Development Strategy.
Key Results Contributes to the design, development, deployment, quality assurance, documentation, support and operation of ICT products, Technology, Systems and/or Applications.
Key Functions • Operates and supports IT facilities, products and/or services, liaising with external service providers where appropriate. • Assists in the gathering of requirements, design, development and deployment of IT initiatives. • Participates in operational activities, including incident - problem management, configuration, support recurrent processes and policy changes, and provides user transaction support. • Prepares appropriate technical and customer documentation according to established standards and business requirements, including application management reports. • Develops and improves satellite image processing and agricultural information extracting models and applications in FAO Hand-in-Hand Geospatial Platform (HiH GP). • Supports remote sensing data channel in HiH GP. • Publishes technical research innovation results in agricultural remote sensing and agro-informatics. • Compiles technical reports and documents. • Performs other duties as required _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
