You have:

  • Undergraduate studies in either Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Software Engineering, Data Science, Cyber Security.
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or in the final academic year of a first university degree program.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Governance Affairs office engages with and guides all relevant stakeholders ranging from Member States, Major Groups and Stakeholders as well as the Private Sector. The intern will be located in the Civil Society Unit of the Governance Affairs Office within UNEP, Nairobi. The Civil Society Unit supports the engagement of the Major Groups and Stakeholders on governing issues of UNEA and UNEP led activities and ensures effective participation of Major Groups and Stakeholders in the work of UNEP at all levels. Under the direct supervision of the Associate Programme Management Officer, Civil Society Unit, Governance Affairs Office, the intern will support the Office which serves as the technical secretariat for the United Nations Environment Assembly and its subsidiary organs. In this context, the Office seeks energetic and motivated interns to support its work in the following areas, as assigned: - Support preparation in website updates; Adding and editing accredited organizations to the website; Uploading documents to repository; Editing contents of civil society webpages - Support Registration processes of the various meetings including working on the list of participants - Develop and conduct a Series of Client Satisfaction Survey – including analyses to feedback to the clientele – especially the Committee of Permanent Representatives. - Draft Accreditation Memos for organizations that have submitted accreditation requests for review - Support effective communications with accredited UNEP Major Groups and Stakeholders in line with UN mandates and guidelines. - Support the day-to-day management of internal Major Groups and Stakeholders databases; - Other tasks, as requested.

Qualifications/special skills

Undergraduate studies in either of these Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Software Engineering, Data science, Cyber Security; and a. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
