You have:

  • 2 years of experience in supporting IT systems for the private sector and/or mid-sized civil society organization.
  • Professional certifications such as Network +, CCNA, or Microsoft Certified Associate would be an advantage.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; including drafting, formulation, and reporting skills.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools such as Wireshark and Meraki Dashboard.
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.), SharePoint, Power Apps, Power Bi, statistical analysis software, and email/internet.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.

Contract

This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

UNDP in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean supports the strengthening of sustainable human development, climate resilience and inclusive governance. UNDP’s work in climate change and disaster risk resilience helps countries alleviate the effects of natural disasters and built back better and stronger after crises. Energy and environment are essential for sustainable development. The poor are disproportionally affected by environmental degradation and lack of access to clean energy services. Global issues as climate change, loss of biodiversity and ozone layer depletion cannot be addressed by countries acting alone. UNDP acts locally and globally to achieve development results.

Within each of UNDP’s programming areas, the UNDP team relies on the IT team for operational IT services and to cover the increased needs of the mission to maintain the ICT infrastructure. The position would handle administrative and operational matters related to Information and Communications Technology and provide operational support for system applications, analysing and implementing system changes/upgrades.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of UNDP’s ICT Analyst, or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the IT Assistant will:

  1. Act as a focal point for receipt and processing of user requests.
  2. Provide basic technical support for relevant hardware and software applications in assigned areas.
  3. Install application systems software and hardware according to specifications.
  4. Provide basic support in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and maintenance of customized application software systems.
  5. Provide maintenance and technical support towards the development and upkeep of internally built Microsoft Power Apps, Power Bi Dashboards SharePoint Online repositories and other web-based solutions.
  6. Work with senior IT staff on the definition and specification of requirements; build, test, and modify prototype application software based on detailed instructions; install and maintain software systems.
  7. Support senior staff in the creation and maintenance of application software; assist in preparing technical and user documentation, as well as in the production of training materials.
  8. Provides support on software development matters, including security, data integrity and recovery; assist with needs assessment for new systems (including modifications to existing systems); performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to requirements; requests, implements, provides operational support and maintain various applications.
  9. Maintain regular contact with users and technical staff in user offices and provide support as required.
  10. Research new technologies as requested; keep abreast of developments in the field; assist in testing and evaluating new products and technologies.

Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of North America, and is the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands. Conditions of the Contract:

The contract lasts for the period indicated above with the possibility of extensions subject to the availability of funding, operational necessity, and satisfactory performance.
