This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the ICT Operations Officer, the duties of the Information Technology Assistant will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Install, configure, test and deploy server systems hardware and software, to include Local Area Network infrastructure, Operating Systems (Unix, Linux, Mac OS), Electronic mail, Citrix, Database systems, Web Development software, Firewall systems, Network Services Server systems (DNS, DHCP, NFS, CIFS/SMB, mail relay, and various security software.
  • Assist in the installation and administration of LAN systems, including installation of hardware and software, user access to shared resources and information systems, and data security;
  • Carry out delivery of the Work Order for computers, accessories and related equipment, as deemed necessary, and follow up on the Work Orders;
  • Carry out configuration of the Central Processing Unit (CPU) before issuance to the users, setup of user Local Area Network (LAN) account, access to shared resources and information systems after ghosting of the machine with an updated image;
  • Provide technical and client-oriented operational support to users;
  • Identifying and eliminating bottlenecks to ensure long-term network efficiency.
  • Assist clients in the daily maintenance of voice and data network infrastructure including LAN, MAN, WAN, WiFi, VOIP and NICs. Serves as tier 1, 2 and/or tier 3 resource for trouble tickets and work orders for voice and data networks and related network infrastructure devices.
  • Perform mid to advanced level Cisco UC administration, implementation and troubleshooting of CUCM, CUC, UCCX, CUPS, CUBE, Jabber, Gateways MGCP, H323, SIP, CTI integration to switching platforms, dialers, call recorders and desk top platforms, and supporting infrastructure
  • Contribute to Problem Management and the Knowledgebase e.g. by assisting in creating-materials to expedite service request fulfilments/incident resolutions, and training manuals;
  • When working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-)governmental counterparts set aside dedicated time for capacity development through coaching, mentoring and formal and on-the-job training; and
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s Degree/ Diploma in Communications Engineering/Business Information Technology/Business Systems Engineering/Computer Science/Software Engineering/Information Technology or related discipline

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

2 years in the delivery of ICT services and provision of client support

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

Area of expertise:

IT architecture and IT project management, Telecommunications systems

Area of expertise details:

Computer skills:

  • In depth knowledge of Microsoft and Cisco Technologies is desired
  • Possession of either Microsoft Certified Engineer (MSCE) / Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) / Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) qualifications are an asset.
