You have:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required.
  • Certification in Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher is desirable.
  • Certification in CompTIA Network+, equivalent or higher, is desirable.
  • Certification in ITIL Foundation is desirable.
  • Certification in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) is desirable.
  • Experience in network, systems, data centre or technical infrastructure is desirable.
  • Experience in working in the United Nations or similar international organization is desirable.
  • Experience in working with Cisco networks, Check Point firewall and Microsoft systems is desirable.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.

Contract

This is a G-5 contract. This kind of contract is known as General Service and related categories. It is normally only for nationals. It usually requires 5 years of experience, depending on education. More about G-5 contracts.

Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds, and Programmes of the UN system worldwide.

This position is in the Technical Infrastructure Support Unit (TISU) of the Infrastructure Operation Support Section (IOS) within the Service for Geospatial, Information, and Telecommunication Technology (SGITT) at the UNGSC, Brindisi, Italy.

The Information Systems Assistant will work under the supervision of the Chief TISU or designated officer.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

• Acts as focal point for receipt and processing of user requests. • Provides support in Installation, configuration, operations and maintenance of ICT Networks and Systems (LAN, Wireless, Telephony, Network Security, Active Directory, Microsoft SCCM, M365 system & services including MS Team & meetings, Data Centre Network Infrastructure, Management and Monitoring tools etc.,) • Coordinates, manages, and executes projects following Project Management methodologies for implementation of new services, proof of concepts etc. • Installs application systems software and hardware according to specifications. • Provides basic support in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and maintenance of customized application software systems; works with senior IT staff on the definition and specification of requirements; builds, tests and modifies prototype application software based on detailed instructions and requirement; installs and maintains software systems. • Supports senior staff in the creation and maintenance of application software within Microsoft M365 systems and services and cloud-based architectures, etc.; assists in the preparation of technical and user documentation, as well as in the production of training materials. • Provides support on software development matters, including security, data integrity and recovery; assists with needs assessment for new systems (including modifications to existing systems); performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to requirements; requests, implements, provides operational support and maintains various applications. • Maintains regular contact with users and technical staff in user offices and provides support as required. • Conducts research on new technologies as requested; keeps abreast of developments in the field; assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies within the ITIL framework. • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Performs other related duties as required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

Certification in Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher is desirable.

Certification in CompTIA Network+, equivalent or higher, is desirable.

Certification in ITIL Foundation is desirable.

Certification in Project/Programme Management methodology by an accredited body (e.g. PMP, PGMP, PRINCE 2 Practitioner Project Management certification level) or equivalent is desirable.

Certification in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

Experience in network, systems, data centre or technical infrastructure is desirable.

Experience in working in the United Nations or similar international organization is desirable.

Experience in working with Cisco networks, Check Point firewall and Microsoft systems is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

This position is temporarily available until 30 June 2024.
