Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), Division of Administration (DoA), Information and Communication Technology Service (ICTS), Service Delivery Unit. The incumbent will report to the chief of the Hosting Team within the Service Delivery Unit. The incumbent is expected to work primarily on site.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Acts as focal point for receipt and processing of user requests.
  • Provides technical support on relevant hardware and software systems applications in assigned area.
  • Installs application systems software and hardware according to specifications.
  • Provides support in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and maintenance of customized application software systems; works with senior ICT staff on the definition and specification of requirements; builds, tests and modifies prototype application software based on detailed instructions; installs and maintains software systems.
  • Provides support on software and hardware integration matters, including security, data integrity and recovery; assists with needs assessment for new systems (including modifications to existing systems); performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to requirements; requests, implements, provides operational support and maintains various applications and systems.
  • Maintains regular contact with users and technical staff in user offices and provides support as required.
  • Conducts research on new technologies as requested; keeps abreast of developments in the field; assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies.
  • Provides occasionally after office hours on call support as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

    Competencies - Professionalism: Knowledge of project management methodology (such as Prince2 or PMI) is desirable. Knowledge of shell scripting, Windows and Linux/UNIX operating systems and networking and information security skills. Knowledge of monitoring, automation and orchestration tools such as Ansible, Zabbix or equivalent. Knowledge of hypervisors and container environments such as VmWare ESX and Docker. Good technical skills, ability to participate in deployment and maintenance of systems, provide user support. Ability to respond to changing requirements and assignments, ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given. Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations.     Education Completion of secondary school or equivalent.

    Job - Specific Qualification Information security training (such as Security+, CyberOPS, CISA, CISSP or equivalent) is desirable.

    Information security certification is desirable.

    Certification in server computing and datacentre operations such as CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Server+ is desirable.

    Information technology infrastructure library (ITIL) foundation certificate is desirable.

    Work Experience At least 5 years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to 3 for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

    Experience in information security management and operations, including penetration testing, threat hunting and vulnerability management is desirable.

    Experience in server administration, software and hardware maintenance is desirable.

    Experience working with a SIEM solution is desirable.

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.

    Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
