Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Unite Service Desk (USD) – Asia, Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) hosted by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The Unite Service Desk provides around-the-clock support for a broad range of key UN applications such as Inspira, Umoja, iNeed, Unite Identity, Unite Mail, UNDSS portals, to UN employees and external users worldwide.

Under the general supervision of the Hub Manager, Unite Service Desk – Asia, the incumbent reports to the Operations Supervisor, acts as Shift Lead supervising a team of service desk agents, works in shifts as per the roster in the environment where the service operates on a 24/7/365 basis. For this position, monthly rotated shift duty including night shift is mandatory.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Assists in the identification of entity’s human resources business process change/transformation needs, including business process and document workflow analysis, organization and maintenance of document repositories; designs and develops workflow systems; conducts research on document/information/knowledge management computer applications’ tools, procedures and standards.
  • Provides basic technical support on relevant hardware and software systems applications in assigned area.
  • Installs application systems software and hardware according to specifications.
  • Provides basic support in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and maintenance of customized application software systems; works with senior IT staff on the definition and specification of requirements; builds, tests and modifies prototype application software based on detailed instructions; installs and maintains software systems.
  • Supports senior staff in the creation and maintenance of application software within Office 365, Microsoft Access and web-based architectures, etc.; assists in the preparation of technical and user documentation, as well as in the production of training materials.
  • Provides support on software development matters, including security, data integrity and recovery; assists with needs assessment for new systems (including modifications to existing systems); performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to requirements; requests, implements, provides operational support and maintains various applications.
  • Maintains regular contact with users and technical staff in user offices and provides support as required.
  • Conducts research on new technologies as requested; keeps abreast of developments in the field; assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

    Education High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    Work Experience A minimum of five years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required.

    Experience working in business process change/transformation including business process and workflow analysis is desirable.

    Experience in conducting research on document/information/knowledge management computer application’s tools, procedures and standards is desirable.

    Experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning system, i.e. SAP or Peoplesoft and MS office is desirable.

    Experience in the United Nations Common System or international organizations is desirable.

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

    Special Notice This is a temporary position and will be available as soon as possible up to 30 June 2023. If selected, an internal candidate will be on temporary assignment to the post; an external candidate will initially be offered a temporary appointment. Any extension of appointment is subject to satisfactory performance and continued availability of the post.
