Org. Setting and Reporting This position is within the Enterprise Solutions Service, Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT/ESS) in Valencia, Spain. The incumbent reports to an Information Systems Officer within OICT/ESS.

Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Information Systems Officer and general supervision of the Enterprise Solutions Service Chief, the incumbents will perform the following functions: - Provides basic support in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of customized test suites for custom applications; works with senior QA staff on the definition and specification of test requirements. - Supports senior staff in the creation and maintenance of test suite for custom applications within mobile, desktop and web-based architectures; assists in the preparation of test documentation materials. - Maintains regular contact with software developers and project managers of tested applications. - Conducts research on innovative technologies as requested; keeps abreast of developments in the QA and Testing field. - Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge of organizational information infrastructure, including hardware, software, and application systems. Knowledge of relevant programming languages and ability to use programming skills to develop test automation. Knowledge of system development workflow and document flow processes, ability to conduct research and gather information from a wide variety of standard and non-standard sources. Ability to respond to changing requirements and assignments, ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given. Ability to perform a wide range of application testing development and maintenance tasks under minimum supervision. Education A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A university degree in computer science, information technology or a relevant field is desirable.

Job - Specific Qualification An International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) certification is required.

Work Experience A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in information systems analysis and testing is required.

5 years of experience developing test for web applications is required.

Experience with agile methodology is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.

Assessment Qualified candidates may be assessed through a competency-based interview and / or other assessment methods.

Special Notice This is a temporary position and will initially be available for three months. If selected, an internal candidate will be on temporary assignment to the post; an external candidate will initially be offered a one-year appointment. Any extension of appointment is subject to satisfactory performance and continued availability of the post.

Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Applicants who have not passed the GGST at the time of application may be invited for the test after submitting an application. Staff members who were granted a fixed-term, continuing or permanent as a result of having passed a predecessor test recognized by the Office of Human Resources Management, and who have continuously held such appointments, are not required to take the new test. This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country.
