Information Management Officer

Overview

Manage information and data for mine action programming in Syria.

You have:

• 2 years of relevant experience in information management, database management, mapping and web development.
• University degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Statistics, Social Sciences, or a relevant field.
• Knowledge of different data collection methodologies and proven capacity to analyze statistical information.
• Proven abilities in data collection, compilation, analysis and reporting with ability to write in a clear and concise manner.
• Knowledge of humanitarian mine action and information management requirements is desirable.
• Effective oral communication skills.
• Proven skills in infographic management.
• Excellent planning and organisational skills.
• Good knowledge of the English language (verbal and written).
• Arabic proficiency required.

DRC Syria

DRC has been actively operating in Syria since 2008 mainly supporting refugees. In June 2012, DRC was authorized by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to expand its humanitarian efforts and provide assistance to IDPs and the vulnerable resident population countrywide. Since then, DRC activities have been focused on NFI distributions, Shelter, WASH, Protection, Education, Livelihoods, and Mine Risk Education in six Governorates (Damascus, Rural Damascus, Dara'a, Aleppo, Hama, and Homs). While Protection/community service activities are provided to beneficiaries throughout our Community Centers.

About the job

As part of the DRC’s humanitarian mine action (HMA) programme in Syria, comprising survey and risk education (NTS EORE) and mine clearance/EOD/IEDD activities, DRC will employ a dedicated mapping and information management officer to support the programme implementation, record HMA progress and update maps of explosive hazards and released areas, and information sharing with UNMAS and other HMA agencies.

The IM Officer is responsible for the management, analysis and sharing of data related to programme activities with the aim to provide reliable, timely and quality information that supports IMAS-compliant and evidenced-based mine action programming.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Information management strategy and standards

• Contribute to development of DRC’s information management strategy by reviewing information needs and gaps, evaluating current information management processes and tools and drafting an information collection and management plan in support of DRC’s mine action operations.
• Ensure compliance of information systems and processes with applicable standards and guidelines related to information management and data protection, including DRC’s internal guidelines and International Mine Action Standards (IMAS).

Data management and analysis

• Ensure effective data management by developing data collection tools and methodologies, designing and managing database systems for data management and analysis purposes.
• Support monitoring and evaluation activities through designing data collection tools, methodologies, training in data collection to project teams and data analysis.
• Ensure availability of updated and quality information for informed decision-making by the HMA leadership by identifying pertinent variables, including analyzing and interpreting multiples datasets, identifying trends and patterns in collected mine action-related date.

Information dissemination

• Draft information products such as reports, charts and infographics by turning data into graphic products to facilitate the dissemination of information to external stakeholders for the purpose of reporting, information sharing and advocacy. To this end, designs the layouts of reporting and presentation templates using graphic design programmes ensuring the attractiveness and clarity of the information products.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of a dissemination plan for all information products, including the definition of standard operating procedures for clearing information products for release.

Experience and technical competencies:

Education:

• University degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Statistics, Social Sciences, or a relevant field.
