Duties and Responsibilities BACKGROUND

The Advocacy and Campaign Unit (External Relations and Partnerships Branch) leads agency-wide advocacy activities and campaigns to support UN-Habitat’s vision, objectives and solutions-oriented culture, as well as leverage partnerships. Its objective is to raise awareness on sustainable urbanization and engage partners in implementing the New Urban Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals and other internationally agreed related goals in the context of the UN Decade of Action to 2030.

The Unit develops and implements advocacy and campaign activities that help promote agreed thematic priorities of UN-Habitat. Team members work collaboratively with substantive units to deploy meaningful and effective advocacy while leveraging a wide range of partner organizations through a client-oriented approach to support advocacy and increase the visibility of UN-Habitat. Key fonctions include: conceptualization of advocacy and campaigns; campaign implementation and monitoring; partners mobilization and engagement.

This position will support UN-Habitat's routine information and dissemination gathering of the Unit, with a focus on Urban Thinkers Campus activities of a variety of partner organizations under the World Urban Campaign. ACU is seeking a Information Management Consultant to compile information and prepare presentation of materials compiled.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Information Management Consultant will work in the Advocacy and Campaign Unit, under the direct supervision of the Unit Head. The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks: 1. Compile of Urban Thinkers Campus Reports received by partners. 2. Prepare information materials for dissemination to the partner organizations of the World Urban Campaign. 3. Manage lists of partner organizations and campaign activities, respond to membership queries.

Qualifications/special skills Competency: Professionalism: Proven expertise in compilation of policy documents, urban development concepts, theories and strategies on sustainable urbanization, and clear communication of facts. Ability to conduct an independent analysis, identify problems, formulate options, conclusions, and recommendations. Knowledge of urban development issues. Ability to observe deadlines and achieve set goals.

Planning and organization: ability to work under pressure, prioritize and plan, coordinate own work plan, use time efficiently and apply common sense in the context of the terms of competition. Ability to observe deadlines and achieve set goals. Ability to work and deliver under pressure.

Communication: Excellent skills in oral and written communication, ability to articulate ideas clearly and precisely. Interpersonal skills, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

Creativity: Strong conceptual thinking. Is not bound by current thinking or traditional approaches, takes calculated risks on new and unusual ideas; thinks “outside the box”, and offers new and different options to solve problems or meet client needs.

Academic Qualifications: A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience is required. Additional training in management and communication or related field is desirable.

Experience: A minimum of 2 years experience working in information management is required. Experience working with international organizations is highly desirable. Experience of compilation of reports is desirable.

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, proficiency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of any other UN language will be an advantage.
