This UNV assignment is located in the Section for Knowledge Management and Coordination (KMCS), in the Branch for Policy, Knowledge Management and Coordination (PKMCB), of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The UNV will be part of the team that serves as Secretariat to the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact. The Counter-Terrorism Compact is the inter-agency mechanism led by UNOCT to enhance coordination and coherence in efforts across the United Nations system to promote and support the balanced implementation of the four pillars of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy by Member States. The Counter-Terrorism Compact was launched in December 2018 by the Secretary-General and currently comprises 40 UN entities as well as INTERPOL, the World Customs Organization and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The Counter-Terrorism Compact is operationalized through eight thematic inter-agency working groups overseen by a Coordination Committee chaired by the Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism and Head of UNOCT. The Counter-Terrorism Compact Secretariat maintains the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Platform. The Platform is a password-restricted online portal, which was developed by UNOCT to facilitate engagement, coordination and collaboration among Counter-Terrorism Compact entities and the UN Member States.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief, Knowledge Management and Coordination Section, in UNOCT/PKMCB or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Information Management Associate will:

• Provide support in developing and maintaining coordination and information management applications, in particular through the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Platform (Platform); • Ensure the daily management and maintenance of the Platform; • Liaise on day-to-day basis with the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) in matters related to information management support to the Counter-Terrorism Compact Secretariat; • Supports the preparation of project and budget documents relating to the Platform; • Maintain customer-oriented relationships with focal points users of the Platform among Counter-Terrorism Compact entities and Member States to promote/facilitate the use of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Platform; • Develop collaborative relations with focal points from Counter-Terrorism Compact entities and the Chairs of the Counter-Terrorism Compact Working Groups; • Support the analysis and presentation of data and information collected through the Counter-Terrorism Compact in the most useful format (e.g. power point presentations, reports, maps, data visualization with Power BI); • Support the organizing of large meetings and events by the Counter-Terrorism Compact and the work of its working groups; • Draft background material on the Platform and the Counter-Terrorism Compact, as well as contribute to routing reporting and note taking; • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Results/expected outputs: • As an active UNOCT team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNOCT and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: • The Platform is effectively managed and overall quality control provided; • Relevant enhancements are proposed and implemented to ensure that the Platform is and remains a digital gateway of the United Nations’ counter-terrorism work; • The content of the Platform is up-to-date, comprehensive and follows relevant metadata standards; • Timely and smooth support is provided to onboard and assist focal points users of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Platform; • Quality presentations and background written material are prepared and visuals produced by turning data into graphical products; • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment; • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment.

the national and/or international level in international relations, information management, communications, or other relevant programmes; • Experience working on peace and security issues, in particular counter-terrorism, is an asset; • Experience working in the UN or other international development organization is desirable; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and experience in handling of web-based management systems, in particular SharePoint; experience with Power BI would be an asset; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team; • Affinity with or interest in peace and security issues, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Experience remark: • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and positive working attitude; • Strong ability to multi-task and a drive for on-time delivery with tight deadlines.

Budapest duty station is relatively safe with easy access to transportation and other necessary amenities such as medical facilities and banks. Accommodation arrangements are usually available in the vicinity of the United Nations Headquarters with moderate to high rental cost. As a fairly new office, UNOCT offers a dynamic and professional work environment, which provides for an interesting and enriching experience while requiring a mature level of cultural and political awareness, as well as a flexible and proactive approach.
