Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the United Nations Information Centre in Manama, within the Information Centres Service (ICS), Strategic Communications Division, Department of Global Communications. The United Nations Information in Manama is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and the State of Qatar. The Information centre is responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating UN information materials to a local audience in Arabic and English; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves. The incumbent will be under the direct supervision of the Head of office. Responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Support in content creation for the UNIC's online platforms, including social media accounts. Support in monitoring and moderating the UNIC's online platforms, including social media and in implementing social media campaigns. Support in the design, production, and dissemination of information material, Support in organization of events and meetings.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
