Overview

Assist in developing IT projects and activities while supporting stakeholder engagement

You have:

  • Master degree or equivalent in relevant area, or first-level university degree with additional training/experience accepted.
  • At least 2 years of professional work experience in research or project/program management related to new technologies, crime prevention, or criminal justice.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English (mandatory).
  • Driving license is required.
  • Familiarity with database design and management.

Contract

This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Head of Centre or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer - Information and Technology Officer will:

  • Assist in realizing foreseen outcomes and outputs and contribute to further developing the existing objectives and activities of the Centre.
  • Contribute to the conceptualization and preparation of project proposals to be implemented by the Centre.
  • Support substantively the meetings, training courses, seminars, workshops, awareness-raising and promotional events, including by designing agendas, identifying speakers, preparing materials and actively participating during the events.
  • Keep abreast of trends and developments regarding the use and malicious use of artificial intelligence, cyber-technologies and unmanned aerial vehicles through research and analysis.
  • Monitor and analyze relevant policies and activities of Member States and International Organizations and relevant initiatives of industry partners.
  • Support coordination with stakeholders in the law enforcement community, industry, academia, as well as counterparts within the UN System and other International Organizations.
  • Assist in preparing analytical reports and other publications, researching and analyzing relevant background documentation as required.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant area, e.g. political science, international law, international relations or area related to computing and/or artificial intelligence; a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree;

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in research and/or project or programme management and implementation in the fields of new and emerging technologies, crime prevention, criminal justice or other relevant programmes; experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning and data processing is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;

  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Have affinity with or interest in artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, crime prevention, criminal justice, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required; Working knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
