Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Joint Mission Analysis Centre (JMAC) of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), duty station Abyei. The incumbent will report to the Senior Information Analyst (Chief JMAC) or their designate.

Responsibilities In line with strategic guidance by the Senior Mission Leadership and under the supervision of the Chief JMAC, the Information Analyst will be responsible for the management (Research, collection, coordination, analysis and dissemination) of information as a basis for enhanced planning and decision-making

Within the overall supervision of the Chief JMAC, the Information Analyst will be responsible for the following duties:

- Identify potential research and analysis topics. Collate, evaluate and analyse information related to developments/events relevant to the implementation of the Mission mandate, using a variety of sources, including UN Mission civilian/military/ police components, UN Country Team, national military/civilian authorities, international community, NGOs, media and other key stakeholders. - Develop effective working relationships with UN Mission components, the UNCT and relevant external actors and organizations. - n consultation with the Chief JMAC and other relevant Mission components, ensures the development and application of JMAC tools, such as Information Requirements (IRs) and Collection Plans. - Produce accurate and timely integrated analysis, assessments, maps and other JMAC products which support decision-making, policy development and planning by Senior Mission Leadership. Assist the Chief JMAC in overseeing the timely production of quality JMAC products and in ensuring information security as well as proper dissemination. - Provide briefings to the Mission Leadership Team, senior UN staff and visiting delegations and represent the JMAC in meetings as required. Support the Chief JMAC in the supervision and management of a diverse, integrated JMAC team (recruitment, staff development, training, evaluation etc.) - Oversee a system for classifying and storing confidential information, in consultation with information management/technology expertise. - Facilitate the implementation of the UN peacekeeping intelligence policy, including by supporting the Mission Chief of Staff and Chief JMAC in animating the Mission PK Intelligence Coordination Mechanism. - Integrate a gender dimension in all relevant analytical products. - Assist the Chief JMAC in their duties as required.

Education Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, foreign affairs, law or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience and relevant academic/professional qualifications, such as accreditations from military or government command and staff colleges, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience A minimum of seven (07) years of progressively responsible experience in intelligence or information analysis, political science, international relations, journalism, development, security (military or police) or related field is required.

Excellent analytical, drafting and briefing skills are required.

Experience in a UN peacekeeping or other field operation is required.

A proven track record of management in multi-cultural settings, including management and coordination of multi-disciplinary teams, is desirable.

Experience supervising or managing teams is desirable.

Experience working in the geographical region of operations is desirable

Experience working in an integrated civilian-military-police environment is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
