Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Joint Mission Analysis Centre of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Naqoura. The incumbent reports to the Chief, Joint Mission Analysis Centre of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) or his/her designate.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

Manage (research, collection, evaluation, coordination and analysis) of information as a basis for enhanced planning and decision-making by the Senior Mission Leadership; Maintain understanding of developments/events relevant for the implementation of the Mission mandate through monitoring and collection of data/information from multiple sources, including UN Mission civilian, military and police components, UN Country Team (UNCT), national military/civilian authorities, NGOs, media and other key stakeholders; Classify, manage, store and transfer information by using JMAC information management processes and systems; Organize, analyse and synthesise information for the identification of trends, production of forecasts and assessments; Produce accurate and timely JMAC analytical products and briefings, in coordination with other Mission components and sources; Assist in the development and coordination of JMAC tools, such as Information Requirements (IRs), in consultation with all relevant information collection components of the Mission; Contribute to effective working relationships within the JMAC and other UN Mission components, the UNCT and relevant external actors and organizations; Maintain a system for classifying and storing confidential information, in consultation with information management/technology expertise. Perform other duties as required.

Planning and Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.

Education Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in Political Science, Political Economy, International Relations, International Law, Public Administration, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in intelligence or information analysis, political science, international relations, foreign relations, development, security (military or police) or related field is required. Experience in research, information analysis and drafting of analytical products is required. Experience in Political Affairs or other information analysis (military/security) in a conflict or post-conflict area in the Middle East region is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
