This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.
In the current context, the country faces a complex reality characterized by various political, economic, social, humanitarian, and security challenges at the local, national, and regional levels. These dynamics not only pose potential risks to the country's stability and long-term development, but also to the delivery of the United Nations in support of these.
In response to the ongoing challenges, the Peace and Development Team actively supports the Resident Coordination Office and UNDP by delivering comprehensive analytical, technical, and advisory assistance, alongside facilitating and accompanying UN engagement with national authorities to ensure conflict-sensitive programming and integrating the triple nexus approach through a developmental lens.
Given the current volatile context, systematic and in-depth analysis of Venezuela is crucial. Continuous context monitoring and the generation of analytical inputs are essential to strengthening the capacity to identify development trends and understand their implications for UN programming. These efforts enable the UN to assess how the evolving situation may affect programmatic implementation, contributing to informed decision-making and thought leadership from a crisis prevention and sustaining peace perspective to adapt effectively and maintains its strategic position in a complex environment.
By providing relevant tools and actionable insights, the Peace and Development Team ensures the UN Country Team is equipped to address emerging challenges, identify opportunities for recovery and sustainable development, promote social cohesion, safeguard civic and humanitarian space, and foster cross-sectoral engagement.

Caracas is designated as a C Family duty station. The availability of recreational and sports facilities are improving and recommended for use within designated areas. Health services are accessible locally, with various private clinics in Caracas, some of which are approved by the UN. These clinics offer specialized assistance, though access to certain medications may be somewhat limited. Education is offered in Spanish, with some institutions providing instruction in English or French. International schools, such as British and American schools, are available, albeit in limited numbers.
Banking facilities and services are limited, exacerbated by hyperinflation, resulting in severe limitations on cash withdrawals from ATMs or banks. Consequently, staff heavily rely on debit/credit cards, transfers, and USD cash. Most shops and restaurants now accept international debit/credit cards. Despite official restrictions on the use of the US Dollar, it is commonly used in the local market. International staff typically reside in hotels or rented accommodations, though prices tend to be high and are currently quoted in USD.
Accommodation in field locations is basic, and maintaining a high level of security awareness is imperative due to the high criminal threat level. The current security level is rated at 3, reflecting a significant level of general criminal activity influenced by economic instability and political dynamics. Although no official curfew is enforced, staff are strongly advised against walking outside after dark (from 6:00 PM) and encouraged to use reliable transportation instead.
