1.Background and Justification

* Purpose of the Position

The Informatics Assistant provides support in managing and administering productivity and collaboration tools in the Regional Office.

2.Job Description

* Objectives of the Programme and the immediate Strategic Objectives

The Information and Technologies Management Unit (ITM) provides information and technologies management services to WHO programmes at regional level including 47 WHO country offices in the African region. The Unit is also responsible for the formulation, implementation, and coordination of ICT strategies and policies in the region.

The Informatics Assistant provides technical and client services support for productivity and collaborative tools used by the organization. The incumbent will work with minimal supervision, following established procedures and practices while handling routine matters independently, and referring problems or unusual situations to the supervisor. The incumbent will be guided by WHO Staff Rules and Regulations, WHO e-Manual, Information notes, SOPs, and established administrative procedures.

* Summary of Assigned Duties (Describe what the incumbent has to do to achieve main objectives)

The Informatics Assistant, will assume the following responsibilities: • Maintain and customize design, navigation and content for the African Region SharePoint and Intranet. • Provide end user support for productivity and collaborative tools. • Provide technical expertise and support for AI-related projects, including troubleshooting and resolution of issues. • Business analysis for technical clusters (departments), identifying their needs for productivity and collaborative tools, proposing and implementing solutions. • Develop user guides on productivity and collaborative tools and provide training to end-users. • Pilot and implement alternative tools for enriching collaboration and engagement activities. • Design business intelligence dashboards. • Provide analytics on use of productivity and collaborative tools. • Any other duties requested by the supervisor.

Functional Knowledge and Skills: *Describe the essential knowledge and the skills specific to the position.

• Experience with web servers and web hosting environments (e.g., IIS, Apache, Nginx). • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools such as SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and PowerApps. • Knowledge of web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics), SEO principles and web security best practices. • Familiarity with content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal). • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design principles.

Educational Qualifications

Essential: University degree (Bachelor’s level) in computer science or other relevant discipline.

Desirable: Microsoft trainings/certifications will be an important asset.

Experience

Essential: A minimum of 10 years’ experience in delivering overall support in IT customer services and productivity and collaborative tools management, and website administration in public/private organizations.

Desirable: Experience with UN Agencies would be an added advantage.

Languages: Excellent knowledge of French or English with a good working knowledge of the other.

Other Skills (e.g. IT): Computer literacy at accredited, technical level, e.g., Microsoft trainings/certifications.

Other Considerations (e.g. Physical Workplace Condition, if other than normal office environment; IT Skills; etc.)

This position handles information, correspondences and documents that require strict confidentiality and discretion. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is also required as well as a good general knowledge of the Global Management System (GSM).

REMUNERATION

The WHO offers an attractive remuneration package which includes, among other things, an annual net salary (subject to deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), dependent benefits, a pension plan, health insurance, and 30 days of annual leave.
