Duties and Responsibilities Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships: This Individual Contractor position is located in the External Partnerships Section of the Special Projects and Innovations Branch (SPIB) of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, in New York. The Individual Contractor will report to the Chief of Section.

Background and objectives: The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) was established by the General Assembly in June 2017. The Office has five main functions: (a) provide leadership on the General Assembly counter-terrorism mandates across the United Nations System; (b) enhance coordination and coherence across the 43 Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact entities to ensure the balanced implementation of the four pillars of the Strategy; (c) strengthen the delivery of United Nations counter-terrorism capacity-building assistance to Member States; (d) improve visibility, advocacy and resource mobilization for United Nations counter-terrorism efforts; and (e) ensure that due priority is given to counter-terrorism across the United Nations System and that the important work on preventing violent extremism is firmly rooted in the Strategy.

The Office’s Special Projects and Innovation Branch’s External Partnerships Sections (EPS) is responsible for leading the conceptualization, development and implementation of technical assistance programmes that require increased coordination and partnership to better assist Member States. EPS is responsible for forging partnerships with the private sector, academia, civil society organizations, and all other relevant stakeholders to implement a “whole-of-society" approach to CT and P/CVE initiatives.

Responsibilities: Within delegated authority, the Individual Contractor will be responsible for the following duties: - Provide substantive, technical, and administrative support to the section’s partnerships with civil society organizations, the private sector, public sector, interregional organizations, and academia through “Connect and Learn Platform”, an online capacity-building tool of UNOCT - Participate in managing and coordinating the Connect and Learn Platform in close coordination with relevant colleagues and provides specialized support in the maintenance, procurement, and development of the Platform including overall quality control for the Platform. - Prepares, develops, and delivers necessary guidance, training, briefing materials, live demonstration, and advocacy materials including posters, presentations, and other visual materials to mainstream the Platform in coordination with the section Chief and colleagues. - Assists the section Chief in conducting outreach activities to relevant stakeholders including, but not limited to, Member States, civil society, the private sector, and UNOCT programme managers and field offices. - Provides substantive and policy advice and inputs to UNOCT senior management, programme managers, and other stakeholders with regard to the Platform. - Participates and organizes high profile events to mainstream the Platform including, but not limited to, the Platform’s anniversary event. - Participate in monitoring and coordinating the design, development, production, and launch of Communities of Practice and eLearning modules hosted on the Platform in collaboration with UNOCT programme managers, the contracted vendors, and other stakeholders in support of the Section’s mandates; ensures the provision of follow-up support to the established Communities of Practice and eLearning modules. - Provides support to prepare various written outputs, e.g. talking points, background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications related to the Platform. - Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a social science discipline such as international relations, public policy, political science, law, business administration, economics or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five years of experience in building and coordinating partnerships including with civil society, private sector, and academia is required Experience in project management and administration is desirable. Experience in information management and online information platform or a related field is desirable.

Languages Fluency in English. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage
