To create and curate short-form video content for UNICEF’s social media channels – particularly focused on TikTok. Through the creation of this content, the qualified candidate will support UNICEF Nepal’s efforts to engage children and youth in meaningful conversations and advocacy on issues impacting children and young people. This includes messaging related to COVID-19 and vaccination, as well as the secondary impacts of the pandemic – crafting innovative content to counter messaging fatigue on the issue. The consultant would also build the capacity of the Communications Team to understand, navigate and harness the potential TikTok, as well as providing stopgap support on other digital channels as and when required

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Digital Communication Officer, the social media consultant will:

  • Support the development of the NCO’s digital communications strategy including on online protection.
  • Create weekly content calendars to produce two-three weekly assets/short videos for UNICEF Nepal’s social media accounts, particularly TikTok, on various issues including COVID-19 prevention, promotion of vaccines, and knock-on effects of the pandemic such as mental health, wasting, etc.
  • Liaise with counterparts in regional/global offices to identify new opportunities for amplification, collaboration.
  • Liaise with TikTok focal point to promote NCO content where possible.
  • Produce monthly analytics reports on TikTok results, growth, trends.
  • Engage with social media influencers and youth to co-create short videos on various themes
  • Provide stopgap support to Communications Team in managing NCO’s other digital channels
  • Provide support to Communications Team on creating content for key events, such as World Children’s Day
  • Provide capacity building sessions for members of Communications Team on conceptualizing and creating short-form videos

Duration of the contract:

The total duration of the consultancy is for 11.5 months tentatively starting from early July 2022.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum Qualification Required:

Bachelors in English, communication, journalism, creative writing, video editing, graphic design, social science, or a similar discipline

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:

  • Demonstrable significant experience in using and managing social media, particularly use of TikTok
  • Demonstrable knowledge of which content performs well on Tiktok and what does not
  • Demonstrable experience with successful digital campaigns
  • Experience editing videos for web and social media
  • Strong communication skills, written English and Nepali skills
  • Knowledge of standard MS Office applications and other computer skills
  • A keen and proven interest/knowledge in social media and other creative web applications
  • Experience using design and editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut or similar to create videos
  • Good research and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of child rights principles is an asset or willingness to learn
  • Previous experience working in digital communications is highly desirable

Competencies:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Nepal
  • Demonstrate initiative, creativity and enthusiasm
  • Able to work well in a team environment
  • Comfortable in front of a camera and being the face of UNICEF’s TikTok
  • Must have a passion for creating creative and engaging video content
  • Must have a deep understanding of TikTok’s ecosystem (i.e. trends, hashtags, music usage, guidelines…)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to quickly understand instructions, ask for clarification when needed, adapt and work independently to produce results on time

Remarks:

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract.
