How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of Communication Specialist the consultant will support the communications section’s visibility actions related to UNICEF’s ongoing programming, including on birth registration, and support to the rollout to the COVID-19 vaccination campaign and COVID-19 prevention.

Work Assignment:

  1. Develop, write and edit human interest feature articles, photo-essays.

    Total number of articles = 2 per month X 11.5 months = 24

    NOTE 1: Four (4) of these have to be in photo essay format.

    NOTE 2: UNICEF will organize site visits.

Deliverables:

Two draft versions of human-interest stories are submitted each month.

The final drafts should incorporate comments and suggestions by UNICEF. (Two human interest stories submitted by the 15th of every month for duration of contract)

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A first level degree in communication, journalism, or international development
  • At least five years of experience in public advocacy and communication, preferably writing similar content for UN or similar organizations.
  • Professional certificate from an organization or company as journalist and/or story writer.
  • Excellent English writing and editing skills are a must. Knowledge of Tetun is a plus.
  • Able to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment
  • Demonstrated ability to produce coherent and compelling text that aligns with communications objectives
  • Field experience is desirable
  • Experience with social media use in a development context would be an advantage.
  • Able to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment, independently, and to time-bound deadlines.
  • Familiarity with UNICEF's work is an advantage.
  • Proven postproduction experience creating photo and video stories
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the communication requirements of a non-profit organization.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors.   • The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract.
