Working under the direct supervision of the Chief of Communication and Advocacy and in close collaboration with other sections, to produce high-quality products and materials, such as publications, fact sheets, brochures, blogs, talking points and other advocacy material.

How can you make a difference?

- Create high quality flagship publications, such as the UNICEF China glossy summary of the CPD;

- Create and review high-quality content for our digital channels or media, such as blogs and articles;

- Develop fact sheets, brochures and advocacy material around key campaigns and events, such as campaigns to address violence against children, early childhood development, prevention of obesity and overweight, adolescent mental health and World Children’s Day;

- Other writing/editorial tasks as needed

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • At least 10 years of relevant prior work experience in communications, public relations, media, writing, or other relevant fields
  • At least five years of work experience in writing and editing of publications, stories, articles, briefs and other communication materials.
  • Fluency in English
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating complex development issues to multiple audiences, and the ability to interpret technical and research data in a concise and engaging manner.
  • Well organized and structured
  • Strong drive for results, taking pride in delivering as per expectation in terms of quality and timeliness
  • Experience working with UNICEF or other UN organizations desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of China and its development context
  • Initiative, passion and commitment to UNICEF's mission and professional values

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
