    How can you make a difference?

The WASH, Climate & Sustainable Environment Section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) is seeking an individual contractor to support knowledge management and innovations in water, sanitation, hygiene, climate & sustainable environment programmes across the East Asia and the Pacific Region.

Work Assignment:

1. Support coordination and management of the regional WASH knowledge management functions

  • Provide technical assistance to country offices on their knowledge management requests
  • Organize regular meetings with CO/RO KM focal points on KM progress, planning and challenges
  • Improve internal knowledge sharing by maintaining all SharePoint communication and collaboration sites including inventory of TORs, roster of experts and facilitates institutional and individual consultants/contractors
  • Maintains the calendar of regional and national events
  • Facilitate and moderate discussions on ‘Asia WASH Network’ Yammer group on unicef.org, – including daily monitoring of the communities, connecting colleagues to answer queries, responding to and promoting posts, and finding content on a daily or weekly basis to engage the community; Develop quarterly reports on CoP engagement and quality, accounting for Yammer, SharePoint, and face to face or online events.
  • Review Country Office Annual Reports and Strategic Monitoring Questions during the annual review process as requested

2. Provide technical support to EAPRO and country offices for developing knowledge products and dissemination

  • Publish a regional newsletter and contribute to global WASH & CEED bulletins; maintain internal and external mailing lists, including audience segmentation, and maintain databases of contacts.
  • Support country offices to develop case studies, field notes, or other documents and coordinate the peer review process
  • Develop dissemination plans for new publications

3. Support capacity building and communications

  • Support in organizing learning and knowledge exchange events, virtual meetings and webinars for cross‐regional learning
  • Assist in creating and delivering learning opportunities for UNICEF staff in the EAP region
  • Support global advocacy events World Water Day (march), Earth Day (April), Menstrual Hygiene Day (May), Global Handwashing Day (October) and World Toilet Day (November)
  • Promote and provide logistical and technical support for webinars (scheduling, promoting, administering, recording and dissemination) and face-to-face trainings, in collaboration with other internal and external partners.
  • Support documenting best practice, blogs, human‐interest stories, as well as social media engagement, in partnership with the regional communications and advocacy team and country offices

4. Support the identification, documentation and scaling of innovations

  • Identify promising innovations – with a focus on climate resilient WASH innovations – from UNICEF country and regional offices in EAP, in collaboration with other programme sections including T4D/ICTD
  • Maintain and update innovations in INVENT
  • Support studies and knowledge product development on WASH & Climate innovations

Work Schedule****:

A work schedule will be developed in the first month of the consultancy based on the above schedule. Consultant will be expected to invoice monthly based on work completed during that time frame. Consultant will prepare a report at the end of each month on assignments performed during the month, which Supervisor will relate to work schedule and certify. This certified report will serve as a supporting document to the payment request relating to that month.

End Product(s):

1. Support coordination and management of the regional WASH, Climate & Sustainable Environment knowledge management functions

  • 4 meetings per year held with CO/RO KM focal points
  • SharePoint sites and calendar updated monthly
  • Yammer network managed weekly
  • COARs and SMQs analyzed in January/February 2023

2. Provide technical support to EAPRO and country offices for developing knowledge products and dissemination

  • 11 newsletters prepared and sent out (monthly)
  • At least 5 country offices supported to develop new knowledge products including dissemination plans
  • External website for EAPRO updated with latest publications (monthly)

3. Support capacity building and communications

  • At least 10 webinars supported with recordings and ppt available online
  • At least 5 advocacy events supported
  • Two blogs published

4. Support the identification, documentation and scaling of innovations

  • INVENT updated (monthly)
  • 2 case studies produced

Duration of Contract: The consultant is expected to work on a full-time basis for 11.5 months (1 August 2022 – 15 July 2023).

Official Travel: The consultant will be based in Bangkok. Depending on the public health situation, the consultant may be requested to travel to other EAP countries for technical support.

Working Location: The consultant is expected to work from the UNICEF office in EAPRO while in Bangkok.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced University Degree in Public Health, Engineering, Social Science, knowledge management or information science, international relations, political science, public policy or related field.

  • At least 5 years of experience in knowledge management or an advanced university degree in knowledge management or information science, public health, social sciences, international relations or related field,

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including experience in cross-cultural environment and international settings.

  • Familiarity and relevant work experience in the East Asia and Pacific region is an asset.
  • Proven ability for accuracy under pressure and adherence to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and innovate.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a proven record of strong collaboration within previous organization and with other external organizations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Technical skills in software and platforms such as Yammer, Microsoft SharePoint, and other Knowledge Management is an advantage.
  • Experience in learning and capacity development, including the production of training materials, is an advantage.
  • Fluency in English is necessary. Knowledge of any other languages spoken in the region would also be an advantage.
  • Willingness to be based in Bangkok, Thailand.
