Result of Service Under the overall supervision of the Chief of FSS/CEB and the guidance of relevant programme managers and substantive officers, the Individual Contractor will perform the following specific tasks:

i. Provide general office assistance; respond to complex information requests and inquiries; review, log and route incoming correspondence; set up and maintain files/records; organize meetings, seminars and workshops at and away from headquarters; handle routine administrative tasks; ii. Support programme/project implementation activities, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow up on administrative actions, e.g. travel arrangements, training/study tours; iii. Assist in the preparation of programme/project budget proposals; review project documents, especially cost plans/budgets, for completeness and compliance with relevant rules and procedures prior to submission for final approval and signature; identify inconsistencies; distribute project documents to relevant parties upon approval; iv. Support budget revisions; verify availability of funds; ensure necessary approval and entry in computerized budget system; v. Compile, summarize and enter data on project delivery; draft related status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery, budget overruns, and bring to the attention of management; vi. Draft a variety of correspondence and other communications for signature/approval related to all aspects of programme implementation vii. Prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphic and statistical summaries, accounting viii. spreadsheets. ix. Assist in the organization and coordination of preparatory meetings with relevant offices and delegations regarding procedural and organizational arrangements for the sessions of assigned meetings/conferences.

Duties and Responsibilities Background of the assignment:

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is the global leader in the fight against drugs, organized crime, corruption and terrorism with widely recognized expertise and specialization on issues pertaining to international cooperation in criminal matters. The work of UNODC is guided by a broad range of international legally binding instruments and a set of United Nations standards and norms on crime prevention and criminal justice.

UNODC, as guardian of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and Secretariat to the Conference of the States Parties to the Convention, has the mandate to provide support and technical assistance to States parties to effectively implement the Convention.

The United Nations Convention against Corruption (hereinafter ‘the Convention’) is the most comprehensive international legally binding instrument to prevent and fight corruption. States parties to the Convention are obliged to take legislative and other measures in the areas of prevention, criminalization and law enforcement, international cooperation and asset recovery. As of March 2021, the Convention has been ratified by 188 States and the European Union. To assess States parties’ compliance with the provisions of the Convention, the Implementation Review Mechanism has been established as a mandatory peer-review process.

Due to the substantial increase in workload of the various streams of the programme, the Individual Contractor will be providing support to the Chief (FSS/CEB) and the FSS team on the administrative tasks.

Qualifications/special skills- A high school diploma or equivalent is required, a university degree is desirable. - At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in general office support, meetings and conferences support, preparing for, organizing and servicing of intergovernmental bodies or similar meetings or related area at the international level, including United Nations or similar international organization, is required. - Experience in budgeting and financial planning is required. - Proficiency in standard office software applications, such as MS Office, etc. is required. - Knowledge of the Rules of Procedure for the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption and its Conference of the States Parties is desirable.

Languages- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
