Duties and Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Chief of the Capacity Building Unit of UNCCT, and the direct supervision of the Head of the Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) Unit of UNCCT, the incumbent will perform the following functions: - Support the preparation and delivery of national workshops and events focused on strategic communications, community engagement, and good governance, as it relates to preventing violent extremism. - Support the development of the substantive and technical components of the Global PCVE Programme as it relates to effective, human rights-based and gender- and age-sensitive strategic communications activities to support the peaceful reintegration within communities of individuals formerly associated with terrorist groups. - Research and gather substantive information on the use of strategic communications for PCVE, particularly on the topic of communications to support the peaceful reintegration within communities of individuals formerly associated with terrorist groups. - Support the delivery of specialized, tailored technical assistance and training to Member States, UN entities, and other potential beneficiaries on good practice communication methodology including objective setting, audience analysis, campaign design, narrative development, and countering hate speech, in support of effective communications for the reintegration of individuals formerly associated with terrorist groups. - Assist with the development and design of strategic communications for PCVE tools, products, and materials. - Research and gather substantive information on the use of strategic communications for PCVE, in a global and local context. - Perform other duties as required.

The individual contractor post will be home-based, with the understanding that travel may be required as requested. Key duties and responsibilities are further listed below.

Academic Qualifications: Academic Qualifications: Advanced University Degree (Masters or equivalent) in communications, international relations, social sciences, business administration or in a related area. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations, or international relations is required. Experience developing and delivering training in strategic communications with government, civil society, and/or community stakeholders is desirable. Experience in working on strategic communications for enhanced community resilience and social cohesion is desirable. Experience providing contextual analysis, research, and insights on communications trends and violent extremism is desirable. Experience in communications methodology such as social media analytics, narrative development and audience analysis is desirable.

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Proficiency in Russian is required. Proficiency in Kazakh or Uzbek is desirable.
