Result of Service

Under the overall supervision of the Coordinator of the Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent, the individual contractor will be responsible for the following outputs:  Relevant assessment of the applications is provided in a timely manner;  Substantial inputs and comments are provided on the programme of work and on individual and group exercises in a timely manner;  Logistical arrangements, including Sched management, are dealt with efficiently;  The secretariat is well informed and kept abreast of all activities of the fellows on a daily basis, and consulted throughout the programme;  The evaluation report is delivered on time and meets high-quality standards;  The individual contractor’s contribution is positively evaluated by the fellows.  The individual contractor is required to deliver a final evaluation report of the 2024 Fellowship programme based on weekly and final evaluations.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Thematic Engagement, Special Procedures and Right to Development Division (TESPRDD), Rule of Law, Equality and Non-Discrimination Branch (ROLENDB), Anti-Racial Discrimination Section (ARDS), in Geneva. Under the overall supervision of the Coordinator of the Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent, the individual contractor will be responsible for the following tasks:  Facilitate the organization and implementation of the 2024 Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent.  Support the selection process of the Fellows including review of written applications, and interviews;  Contribute to the elaboration of the programme of work, based on the results of the Training Need Assessment survey;  Liaise with relevant colleagues for the organization of training sessions, including uploading relevant material online;  Follow-up on the logistical arrangements and any logistical issues arising during the implementation of the programme;  Prepare and review individual and group practical exercises;  Accompany and provide assistance to the fellows throughout the training programme including: welcoming the fellows on the first day of the Fellowship programme; checking attendance during training sessions; mentoring the fellows by providing them with substantive support on the content of the programme of work and assignments; responding to fellows’ inquiries; and informing them about possible changes in the schedule as well as preparing and sharing training material.  Address any issue that may arise during the programme in coordination with the Coordinator of the Fellowship programme;  Undertake evaluations of training sessions and prepare the final evaluation report of the 2024 Fellowship programme;  Undertake any other assignment as deemed necessary by the Coordinator of the Fellowship Programme;

Qualifications/special skills

Advanced University Degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, human rights, political science, international relations, social sciences or related fields. A minimum of two years of relevant experience in human rights, law or related area is required. Experience working on issues related to the human rights of people of African descent is required. Completion by candidates of OHCHR Fellowship programme for People of African Descent is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
