The overall objective of this assignment is to support the Country Office to operationalize the Business for Results (B4R) strategy approach and implementation of related work plan. The Business for Results (B4R) Contractor will continue to support the development of a private sector engagement, and relationship management, while ensuring the relevant due diligence processes and protecting the UNICEF brand.

As the leading organization promoting the rights and wellbeing of every child, UNICEF is at the frontlines for responding to the COVID-19 crisis and the resulting impact on children's rights and welfare. Working in partnership with host countries, UNICEF continues to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all vulnerable populations, especially children and adolescents. While efforts are underway, it is equally critical to engage with private sector as a means of addressing the serious impact that this pandemic has on children in Nepal and children’s rights in general and building a stronger child rights focused recovery. This will help to strengthen responses by UNICEF, its partners and host governments. UNICEF Nepal has been developing an overall strategy and engaging multiple private sector entities to support the Covid-19 response. In line with the development of future focused strategic programmatic priorities.

Engagement with business entities and associations will be more strategically tied to key programmatic goals, beyond the needs of Covid-19 and will be linked with youth engagement and the Generation Unlimited initiative. UNICEF in Nepal is currently developing the B4R strategy and engaging private sector entities.

Specific Tasks

  • Serves as B4R Lead, and works closely with sections and partners, to identify and develop/expand B4R related management interventions.
  • Strengthen B4R component as a programmatic strategy for results, especially in relation to the development of the Country Programme Document.
  • Manage and support the relationship with key private sector entities in line with the engagement modalities, with a focus on Family-Friendly Policies (mental health as a component) and Addressing child rights in advertising.
  • Support update, integration of private sector analysis into the UNICEF Situation Analysis to assess and analyse the role of private sector in strengthening children’s rights and wellbeing and to understand the implementation of laws and policies in the private sector related to children and women – with an additional focus on the Business and Climate Crisis analysis and mapping.
  • Co-lead country program B4R strategy development and ensure effective planning and coordination of B4R programmes objectives
  • Provides technical guidance and contribution for the development of B4R annual workplans, reporting, and support development of communication materials for targeted B4Rs interventions
  • Support UNICEF staff capacity to effectively engage with the business sector in line with the UNICEF Programme Guidance on Engagement with Business.

Minimum Qualifications required (Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required)

  • Master’s degree in communication or any other relevant discipline
  • Minimum 8 years or above professional work experience in related field: marketing & communication
  • Proven work experience in working in a relevant private sector role within UNICEF, or with the private sector/entrepreneurial background is an asset
  • Language skills: written and spoken fluency in English
  • Core competencies (required) include Communication, working with people, relating /networking
  • Functional skills and knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written are required. Multimedia technical knowledge in design and film is an asset. Working knowledge of the private sector in Nepal and Youth related networks is an advantage

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
