Overview

Provide logistical support for the Global Victims Congress.

You have:

• At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in international relations or social work is required.
• Good knowledge of human rights and/or international relations.
• Experience working with victims of trauma is highly desirable.
• Experience in organizing conferences and events is highly desirable.
• Fluency in oral and written English is required.
• Knowledge of another United Nations official language is desirable.
• Advanced University Degree (Masters or equivalent) in political science, social work, psychology, international relations or related field preferably with an emphasis human rights or victims of conflict/terrorism.
• Ability to plan and organize events and activities targeted at different audiences and ensure effective communication facilitation between audiences.

Result of Service Outputs and deliverables During the first month of the assignment, the consultant will work jointly with his/her direct supervisor to finalize an agreed upon work plan. The final work plan will be discussed and mutually agreed to by the consultant and his/her supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities Duties, Responsibilities and Output Expectations:

Under the overall guidance of the Branch Chief of Pillar I and IV of UNCCT, and the specific guidance and supervision of the Programme Manager of the UNCCT Victims of Terrorism Unit, the consultant would provide substantive and logistical support to the organization of the Global Victims Congress, to be held in June 20210 during Counter-Terrorism Week, and to support the development of materials for the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, held annually in August

Specific tasks for the incumbent will include:

• Support, liaise and outreach with victims, victims’ associations and civil society organisations taking part in the Global Congress of Victims of Terrorism.

• Support logistical/organizational and substantive elements of the Global Congress of Victims of Terrorism.

• Liaise with victims of terrorism, supporting their preparation to attend the Congress, including check-in regularly to ensure their mental and physical well-being.

• Support the preparation of the report of the Global Congress of Victims of Terrorism.

• Perform other duties as required.

  Qualifications/special skills Competency: Professionalism: Good knowledge of human rights and/or international relations. Good knowledge of working with civil society. Strong analytical skills and ability to conduct research on a range of issues, including those on victims of terrorism. Proficiency in drafting and ability to prepare well and under time pressure briefs, statements and other written materials.

Communication: Good interpersonal and communication skills with a wide variety of people, with strong preference for candidates with experience working with victims of trauma, particularly victims of terrorism. Maintains timely and consistent flow of information with relevant colleagues within UNOCT/UNCCT, Member States, and civil society organizations, as relevant. Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed and ability to build and maintain effective partnerships.

Planning and organizing: Ability to plan and organize events and activities targeted at different audiences and ensure effective facilitation of communication between audiences. Skills and ability to coordinate the work of others, work to tight deadlines and handle multiple concurrent projects; strong multitasking skills and ability to prioritize multiple time-sensitive projects.

Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Solicits input by genuinely valuing others’ ideas and expertise and is willing to learn from others. Places team agenda before personal agenda. Supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position. Academic Qualifications: Advanced University Degree (Masters or equivalent) in political science, social work, psychology, international relations or related field preferably with an emphasis human rights or victims of conflict/terrorism. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience: At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in international relations social work is required. Experience working with victims of trauma is highly desirable. Experience in organising conferences and events is highly desirable. Experience in drafting and producing communication materials, briefing notes, and talking points are highly desirable. Experience in working with civil society and other relevant stakeholders is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is desirable.
