Result of Service

• Material to support the informal consultations on the General Assembly resolution on the quadrennial comprehensive policy review including raw notes taken during informal sessions and communication and other material required for the organization of informal briefings to Member States. • Material containing analyses and summaries of the mandates contained in the 2024 QCPR resolution. • Material related to the preparation of launch of 4 QCPR surveys as well as communication material related to the continuous follow-up and reminders for survey completion, in coordination with the Development Coordination.

Work Location

ON/OFF PREMISES: Telecommuting and working on-site (S-26th floor) at UN Headquarters in New York in accordance with FWA guidelines

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located within the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) / Office of Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development (OISC), Operational Activities Policy Branch (OAPB). OAPB provides substantive support to the work of the United Nations General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), including at the ECOSOC Operational Activities for Development Segment. The Individual Contractor reports to the Chief of Branch and works under the direct supervision of the Economic Affairs Officer of OAPB. Responsibilities: • Support the informal consultations on resolution on the Quadrennial comprehensive policy review of operational activities for development of the UN development system (QCPR) by contributing to note-taking; researching select topics related to the QCPR; organizing briefings; preparing analyses and summaries of QCPR mandates and other support and material requested by the Facilitator of the consultations and the OAPB team. • Contribute to the preparation, launch and follow-up for the surveys of Governments, Resident Coordinators, UN country team members and UN entity headquarters, including through the design of questionnaires, orchestrating the survey launch and following-up with respondents, as needed. • Performs other related duties, as required, by supporting the research and analysis on key trends, policy and related issues on operational activities for development as part of QCPR implementation, preparing briefing notes, inputs to speeches and similar material on economic or sector issues and undertaking administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit's services.

Qualifications/special skills

• Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in social science, economics, political science, international relations, development studies, public administration, or related fields. A first level university degree with an additional 2 years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. • Two years of experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required. • Experience with operational activities is desirable. • Experience with secretariat support of United Nations intergovernmental informal consultation processes including markup is desirable. • Experience in preparing and conducting surveys is desirable. • Experience working in the UN and/or international organization is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
