National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) is a common platform of organizations working in the field of DRR for developing a common understanding on the issues of disaster risk reduction and management, policy advocacy, coordination and advice on priorities of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) focusing both on Emergency Preparedness and Response and Disaster Risk Reduction. As a nationally owned forum, NPDRR Nepal is led by National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). The platform, chaired by the Executive Chief of NDRRMA, was formed in 2008 with reference to the guideline of Secretariat of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. In order to help support the smooth functioning of NPDRR activities and also to establish strengthened, regular and effective communication between and among global, regional and national platform of DRR, NPDRR secretariat feels the need of a DRR coordination and Networking Specialist. UNICEF Nepal country office (NCO) is collaborating with NDRRMA for its smooth functioning and enhanced performances as per its mandate to act as the central resource body for disaster risk reduction and management. Against these backdrop, UNICEF Nepal country office (NCO) calls for a National Consultant to support NPDRR/NDRRMA for networking and coordination. Broad results of this consultancy will be to: • Establishment of functional coordination, collaboration, and partnership among relevant agencies at federal, province and local level to implement DRR activities in Nepal following a participatory manner. • Enhanced effectiveness of NPDRR/NDRRMA through efficient, and responsive communication and networking between and among global, regional DRR platforms, • Integration and mainstreaming of child centered DRR (CCDRR) approach across the priority mandates of NPDRR/NDRRMA. • Support and develop Nepal country paper on DRR.

How can you make a difference?

The Emergency and DRR section in UNICEF Nepal Country Office (NCO), in collaboration with the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR)/National Disaster Risk Management Authority (NDRRMA) is seeking the support of a full-time Individual Contractor to provide technical assistance to NDRRMA to make NPDRR functional and systematic to bring Disaster Risk Reduction stakeholders together for the better prepare for emergency and climate crises in the country. Key purpose of the consultancy includes the following. • To establish coordination, collaboration, and partnership among DRR and relevant agencies at federal, province and local level to implement DRR activities in Nepal. • To make the National DRR Platform more effective through efficient, and responsive communication and networking between and among global, regional DRR platforms; • To bring Federal Disaster Risk Management stakeholders together for the timely and effective emergency preparedness and response • To position Nepal DRR work in the regional and global platform

Duration of Contract: The total duration of the contract is for 11 months starting from 01 December 2022.

Duty Station: The consultant will be based in National Disaster Risk Reduction and NDRRMA office, Kathmandu, Nepal.

  • At least Bachelor Degree in any discipline preferably in DRR, climate change and environment sectors.
  • At least two years’ experience in coordination, networking and knowledge management
  • Good understanding of disaster, resilience and climate change along with their impacts and concern for children and youths.
  • Good knowledge on DRRM ecosystem i.e. process and institution in Nepal
  • Good communication skills both in Nepali and English
  • Excellent writing and documentation skills
  • Familiar with updated skills and technologies on computer and organizing virtual and physical events.
  • Experience working with the government, I/NGOs and the private sectors
